KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN! THIS IS EFFING AWESOME! I can't believe Khan is teaching us about Set Theory. I think he's finally starting more advanced Math. I feel like I am in a dream. I already know most of this stuff but nothing equals Khan's level of delivering a message so I'll watch them all at least three times each. Thank you, Sal.

There might be something I'm not understanding but "3" is NOT in x OR y. It is in BOTH therefore it is not in one OR the other. Even in the illustration only the things that DON'T overlap are shaded. (5:21-5:30)

What is the intersection if there are two of the same number/value in one of the sets, and only one of the number in the other set? E.g. X = {3, 3, 4} and Y = {3, 4, 5}
@WrathofMath5 жыл бұрын
It's a little late, but sets are collections of unique, distinct, and unordered objects. So a set cannot have multiple of the same objects. Each element is unique, and all elements are distinct from each other. So if the set X = { 3, 3, 4 }, this is really just a confusing way to write the set, because a set can only count one 3. In other words { 3, 3, 4 } = { 3, 4 }. So X = { 3, 4 }. Then if Y = { 3, 4, 5 }, we have that X intersect Y equals { 3, 4 }. Hope that helps you or someone reading this in the future!
