One has to admit, the people who planned the construction of the Interstate Highways really had a good eye for scenic vistas.
@EpicThe1126 жыл бұрын
Frederick Herriot I agree with you but they copied the Scenic Overlook from the Germans who built them in the 1930s for their Autobahn network which still triumphs the interstate highway system because their pavement is designed to last 20-50 years unlike the interstate highway which would have required a pavement Rehabilitation after 20 years if asphalt but 20-50 years if concrete
@skippy87993 жыл бұрын
@@EpicThe112 it was also designed for tanks and humvees for that amount of time. Let alone cars
@electroguy20073 жыл бұрын
@@EpicThe112 The Autobahn is miles (or kilometers) better, with mostly asphalt pavement, better lane discipline, and no speed limit when practical. Granted the Interstate system is still within the top 10.

Very cool video! I suspect MOST of the traffic generated N of Great Falls are fellow Albertans travelling to and from the Sunbelt during the snowbird migration seasons since to get from Edmonton to Salt Lake, Las Vegas or Los Angeles all you have to do is stay on the QEII headed South and keep driving...

Whoa, thanks for sharing as requested, Kyle! And I came to watch it as promised :) By the way, I just want to support your channel without getting a T-shirt. To be honest, the design doesn't quite catch me, but it doesn't stop me for wanting to support your channel. Where should I go to do so then? Your videos are masterpiece. They really help calm me down when I’m frustrated or stressed out. They, along with others' freeway drive videos, are my secret sanctuary, to be precise!

The last time I was on that road, the speed limit was 75 which I thought was way too fast. It is quiet north of Great Falls, although, in the Alberta side, Highway 4, which is the continuation of I-15, is also a divided 4 lane highway although it is not built to freeway specs like the Interstate. Every intersection is level and every railway crossing is at grade.
@compdude1006 жыл бұрын
Nice drive. The signs actually say that the speed limit is 75, not 80, which is perfectly reasonable for a road like this.
@InterstateKyle6 жыл бұрын
This video was filmed in 2014, the speed limit change occurred on October 1, 2015 from 75 to 80 MPH. I use resources such as the internet and various websites and even people in the general area to tell me when the speed limits change, to be as accurate as possible. You'll see this in my I-90 video as well where the speed limit changes between 80-65 MPH depending on the conditions. But, the speed limit is 80 MPH on this stretch between the I-90 interchange and exit 192 in Helena, where it is reduced to 65. It becomes 80 MPH again once leaving Helena.
@InterstateKyle6 жыл бұрын
Plus I always post when the video was filmed in the ending credits to clarify because things change over time, a freeway may be widened or re-stripped, and of course weather and time of year.
@compdude1006 жыл бұрын
InterstateKyle Oh sorry didn't realize that the speed limit had changed since this video was filmed. I actually knew MT had an 80 mph speed limit, but didn't realize that it applied to this particular road. I guess this is what happens when I comment before watching the whole video lol.
@InterstateKyle6 жыл бұрын
Hey I get it all the time, at least you're nice about it, I can't tell you how mad some people get when things get dated and get all pissy about it. Like for example my Oakland video from 2015 said the Warriors won the NBA title 4 times, correct in 2015 they did win 4 times, but he said they've won 5 times (having won in 2017) but the video was released in 2015, so like I said, thanks for being nice about it, lol

nice mountain drive. Ahh, so that's the road someone would take up from Montana to get to Calgary & Edmonton. The traffic seems very low especially for an Interstate.
@InterstateKyle6 жыл бұрын
Besides Butte, Helena, Great Falls, and Glacier NP, there's little to no reason to be on this road unless you are traveling long distance.
@TransCanadaPhil6 жыл бұрын
InterstateKyle interesting. I wonder why they decided to make it an interstate and not just a regular divided dual-carriageway with normal junctions. It seems like that would have been ok too. One of the big reasons I'm an advocate for Free Movement in North America is that you'd see a lot more usage of Interstates like this with people driving more freely between Montana, Alberta, Idaho, and Saskatchewan. This Interstate would receive much more traffic from people in Calgary.
@highway2heaven916 жыл бұрын
I've gone that way four times. The Interstate leaves the mountains about a few miles before reaching Great Falls, then its in the plains for the rest of the journey. While traffic levels are low in this video they are near zero after Shelby, MT and don't rise again until well north of the border in Lethbridge.
@tyfrank34273 жыл бұрын
@@InterstateKyle It is a trade corridor and part of the CANAMEX highway network. The Alberta side is all 4 lane as well to Lethbridge then continuing to Edmonton.
@tyfrank34273 жыл бұрын
@@TransCanadaPhil On the Alberta side it is like that with level railway crossings and level intersections. Because this is an Interstate, it must be built to Interstate standards, which is a divided 4 lane freeway. A wide 2 lane highway would be adequate. If Alberta becomes the 51st State which is possible, because of the savage hatred of the PM and our lack of power to change that, then traffic levels will rise.
