This is one thing that I miss about Michigan, the freeways. The freeway rides I used to go on as a kid were some of the best nostalgic experiences of my childhood.

Welcome back AP, it's been quite sometimes since your last video. I'm honestly glad to see another Michigan video, as well as the updated footage of I-75 throught northern Detroit after its reconstruction. As well as the construction of the Future Gordie Howe Bridge. In my opinion, you could certainly make a video of it once it'll be completed for 2024. Did you know that the bridge was named in honor of Gordon Howe, a famous Canadian Hockey Player who had died in June 2016. And also, have a good Thanksgiving weekend I also was quite surprised to see that truck at 0:34 where the trailer was reading ''Transport Jules Savard'', a truck company from Quebec. From the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean to be more precise, the region where I am from. Definitely something that you don't see everyday, especially in the U.S.A.

In August, I took a road trip to Michigan and Niagara Falls and Toronto from my home in southwestern Pennsylvania. Everywhere I went, no matter the state or province, there was road construction. It was tough to escape.

A lot of needed repairs and rebuilds going on across the state. Much needed, just sucks when it’s all being done at once.

Great job with this video. Although legislation already approved for HOV lanes in Michigan, I think it's still a bit weird how the HOV signs are already up when the governor herself hasn't even approved the bill yet. I'm still curious how enforceable the lane will be during the peak hours with the lack of physical delineation or even a double white pavement marking. Anyways, it was a happy surprise to see M-59 included in this! I always liked the freeway section of it for no particular reason, especially back when it was only 2 lanes in each direction.

I find it kind of surprising that the HOV lane legislation hasn't been signed in to law. Way back when they were first starting the I-75 project it was always proposed to be expanded with HOV lanes. I'm kind of surprised the legislation wasn't tabled back then. Either way, the I-75 reconstruction was really well executed in my opinion. I was really happy to finally get to drive the (nearly) finished product. Thanks for the comment.

Great video! They seem to love closing all but one lane of traffic on the highways out there. Traffic in Detroit can move crazy fast when it flows freely but I recall being stuck on a half-mile on I-94 for half an hour in order to squeeze 3 lanes into one.

Michigan drivers drive very quickly. I like driving in Michigan for that reason, I feel like I am among my people. And yeah, it's also not uncommon in southeast Michigan for MDOT to just close an entire freeway for a construction season. In 2018 when I-696 was being reconstructed, they just closed one direction of the freeway for an entire construction season to complete the work. I guess their network has sufficient residual capacity to allow them to do that. If a freeway in Toronto was closed for a season, the entire city would grind to a halt. Thanks for the comment.

@@AsphaltPlanet1 I remember saying that exact thing to myself when I first drove on a free-flowing 401, but I was impressed once more when I went onto 696 between M-10 and I-75. And that's fair with how they plan construction out. With the city population change, the highways felt really wide open and empty, and there are often many alternatives that would help spread out the shock of a lane closure, definitely more than in Toronto or even Seattle.

AT 3:33 my parents homes used to be there until 1956 when they made this freeway and they tore down their entire neighborhood

Great video! Going Detroit on Interstate 75 North. If I remember correctly, I think you went on this highway before a couple years ago. Anyways, just asking, you go to Seattle. They have the longest floating bridge in the world, and one of the coolest stretches of highways that go throughout downtown.

Detroit does have pretty nice highways considering the economic decline of the city since the 1950’s.

Much of that highway in this video is in the suburbs. The metro area as a whole has been stable as far as population numbers.

Nice perfect timing, the HOV lane is suppose to opening as soon as the end of this month. Not sure how they intend to expand the HOV lane south of 12 mile mile to 8 mile considering the width of the left shoulder or if they are intending to turn the current left lane to HOV lane.

Sorry I must've interpreted it wrong. On their website under "How HOV Lanes will work on I-75?" "HOV Lanes are planned from 12 Mile Road to South Boulevard and an additional travel lane is being built from M-102 (8 Mile Road) to 12 Mile Road." So sounds like HOV lane north of 12 mile and additional regular lane south of 12 mile.

Great drive! Does the road sign in Ontario, Canada specifically use Clearview and/or Highway Gothic font/typeface on a road sign?

The province uses Highway Gothic. Some municipalities do use clearview.

Texas uses Highway Gothic on some of their freeway newer signage in Houston especially in San Houston Tollway which is strange and I like it!
