Interstate 95 - Cross Bronx Expressway - New York City - August, 2022

Drivelapse video of Interstate 95 starting just north of the Connecticut/New York State Line and heading southerly along the New England Thruway portion of the New York State Thruway system through New Rochelle before entering the five boroughs of New York City and becoming the Brucker and Cross Bronx Expressways in The Bronx.

That freeway is always congested. Like when I went up to Albany this one time i got first stuck there even though it was 12 in the afternoon

Glad to see that you came back to New York this year, & uploaded a video on it after so many years & congrats for your 1st video ever in Connecticut! At 4:48, you probably don't know, but I think that the most congested road in the U.S.A. is actually the I-405 in Los Angeles. But the Cross-Bronx Expressway is definitely one of the most congested road in the U.S.A. & probably the most in New-England. & sad news, the Queen Elizabeth died yesterday at 96 years old. R.I.P. to her 🙏🙏 (1926-2022) Let's hope her soul will last's forever! & also, Canada is in national mourning

The Cross Bronx Expwy is New York's busiest highway as it links the George Washington Bridge (world's busiest bridge) and the Bruckner Interchange. If you combine the George Washington Bridge with the Cross Bronx Expwy, they both form NYC's busiest bottleneck in one.

I love the ride, but New York's infrastucture and traffic is just ugh. But, if they try to reconstruct these freeways, I'd be dead before it reaches completion.

New York definitely has aging infrastructure. It must be a real challenge to upkeep given the tight property constraints and heavy traffic.

Awesome vid. I would've expected one of the most important expressways in America's largest city to have more than 3 lanes in each direction! Though the traffic seems to flow surprisingly well, and looking at the roadway design I can see widening this would be an absolute nightmare - reminds me of the Schuylkill Expressway in Philadelphia. The road is looking a bit long in the tooth but clearly still does its job well.

Thanks much for the comment. This video was filmed pretty early on a Sunday morning, so the traffic in the video isn't really representative of what it's like most of the time. Much of the time, the Cross-Bronx is a particularly vibrant shade of crimson on the map.

I think it's just a makeshift truck staging area for trucks with scheduled drop off or pickup times. There isn't much in the way of proper truck facilities in this part of New York State (or Connecticut) unfortunately.

well, there are a bunch of parallel routes for commuter traffic, and any through traffic would bypass I-95 via I-287 or I-84. The Cross-Bronx is a pretty terrible through highway.

New York does indeed have some pretty old infrastructure. It's a pretty built up environment so I think its tough for them to do too much with it, even though I think they probably need to.

Exactly. The city is very dense. Hong Kong has much newer infrastructure, as it’s a newer city by comparison, but the roads (etc.) are still comparably cramped for much the same reasons as NYC… the urban density. The main areas of HK are probably even more dense than NYC, for that matter.
