The Loop 12/I-30 Interchange layout dates back to the days when that part of I-30 was the Dallas-Fort Worth Turnpike. They left the layout after the road became toll free, and even left it when the replaced one of its bridges over I-30. Recently, I found preliminary schematics of an eventual widening of Loop 12 from SH 183 to Spur 408, which includes replacing that interchange with direct connectors.

I remember driving this road back and forth in 2015 to go from Johnson County to a school in Irving 3 times a week in a 1987 Chevy R10 pickup. Good fond memories driving it at night when class let out.

At 4:15 when you went on Loop 12 from SH 114, just to your left used to be where Texas Stadium was located, former home of the Dallas Cowboys. It was sadly torn down in 2010.

2:48 - SH 114 is actually about 350 miles long, with roughly 155 miles of it concurrent with US 82

Watching your videos of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro, the theme to the show "Dallas" comes to mind. Of course, Dallas & it's freeway system were very different during the time of the classic show's original run.

Good one as usual. FYI the I-635 designation picked up at the 35E junction and lasted until it hit the old I-20/U.S. 80 interchange in Mesquite-before the new I-20 was built south of that (I have relatives who still live east of Dallas and they remember the new I-20 being built-not quite in their backyard, but close!) It runs about ten miles south of the U.S.80 freeway from Mesquite to Terrell, and picks up the U.S. 80 at Terrell, then runs to Shreveport and points east.

This stretch of 45 is so different-much better-at night. Especially at like 3am. You can absolutely fly between 20 and 175. It drives unlike any other highway in the metroplex tbh.

Speaking of your next video, coming into Dallas on I-45 North gives drivers one of the best views of the Dallas skyline there is. It’s a straight, head-on view of the skyline rising over the Trinity floodplain, almost as if it rises up out of nowhere. There’s barely any development along the I-45 corridor, so this makes the approach to downtown Dallas even more dramatic. It’s quite the opposing view as coming into Dallas from the other direction, along US 75 south. The suburban development along US 75 extends all the way past McKinney, which if development extended that far along I-45, would be roughly the equivalent of south of Ennis to Dallas. But instead we get a nice, fairly rural Interstate almost all the way to Dallas, although all those warehouse developments south of I-20 does extend the extent of the Metroplex along I-45 a little bit southwards now.
