Lyrics:
Even in a simple exchange I can tell
Whether or not you swallowed those propaganda pills
The steady overdose that we've stomached since our birth
That makes us content with our simple and obedient existence
Breathe this in and let this dose be of reality
To the world as you were truly meant to perceive it
Infinite shades of reason and truth
Of fulfillment and identity, of vices and virtues
Let the curtains close across the stage you've known
And the spotlight fade for the chance to see
What resonates within your very core
Will light the stage that you were meant to perform
Allow yourself this moment to move freely
The walls will crumble from around you
What echoes now will be from within
So believe in what it is that you hear
Let the curtains close across the stage you've known
And the spotlight fade for the chance to see
What resonates within your very core
Will light the stage that you were meant to perform

It's nice hearing a mid range vocalist who doesn't scream for a change. I'm not saying I hate high vocalist who scream, but this is a nice change for progressive metal in general.

I love screams, but some of my favorite softer/mid song are from metal bands that toned it down for a song or two. A lot of them have amazing talent singing in different ranges, and it's unfortunate that many bands don't utilize that.

Low notes are leads as well. but take out your right earbud or take off your right headphone....there is almost a constant lead in that ear the entire song. Seriously. I think people are being ridiculous about this band, and all bands in the same vein as this. It's as though the consensus is: "If you have a vocalist, they had better do the same exact amalgam of screams and cleans that I've heard 600 times, or else it's too different and I hate it." Personally, I'm *glad* records like this exist. Sometimes I don't feel like having my ears assaulted by some guy's abrasive vocal chords, and Intervals' vocalist is talented, as is the rest of the group. They're no worse than they were before, and people are just inventing problems so they can justify their discomfort with change. This *isn't* 'poppy' music. There are almost no bands that sound like this that don't have harsh vocals anymore. Goddamn.

I gave up hoping to ever hear decent melodic yet heavy music again for this very fact. Screaming vocals have never been my thing. They could be the best at their game on their instruments, and I still wouldn't care. To each his own.
@Voulf
@Voulf 10 жыл бұрын
Sure, i'm ridiculous. Just compare number of views for previous album - more than 400k - and for this one. Stat is here, lots of fans prefered instrumental and this is not about the way the singer sings, imho it is just about having a singer, good or not =) Bands like Tesseract released instrumental version of their album, so what is the point with Intervals not to do the same to satisfy people who like the singer and people who don't like a singer at all? Peace =)

The other album has been out for longer, so it has more views. Do simple concepts such as this always elude you?
@Voulf
@Voulf 10 жыл бұрын
squitestubez Nope, for In Time, i got 468k views in 1 year, for the new one i got 134k for 5 months, if i make a ratio, new album should be around 320k, even if we expect - and i wish for them - to have more views (i.e 470k) there are maybe other conclusions to tell. But that is the not the point, the point is just about releasing this album without vocals to satisfy people who tend to prefer that genre of music without 'em. I doesn't hurt anybody :D

Awesome song. Just want to say, people can express their views and what they think. What about the artist you are listening to? Can they not grow in their own way and change how they like and play the way they wish. I have a lot of likes in different music, from dance, heavy metal even some rap. I have only been listening to Intervals for probably the past 6 months and although this is different to what they where like. I respect and enjoy this music, solid guitar, clean singing and just the feel. This is a different sound and it's great. Not much music like this around these days. Thanks guys.

I think the "problem" with the vocals is that the vocal melodies are really emphasizing how poppy Intervals is especially since there is no screaming. I can see both sides of the issue but the bottom line is that semesky is awesome and this band is awesome so I'll keep listening.

There is no "problem" - Aaron, Anup and the rest of the lot made a conscious decision to get Mike to become a vocalist for the band. Nobody or nothing can change that. All these wankers and elitists think they know better, suggest all sortsa stuff and give their opinion on how "this genre should never have vocals". Unless they write music in the equivalent epicness that Aaron writes, their opinion is invalid.
@BingusBongusMan
@BingusBongusMan 10 жыл бұрын
What is wrong with "poppy" genres. The reason mainstream pop is so shit is because its usually shallow, repetitive, and generic to appeal to the masses. There are elements of pop like being upbeat and having certain melodies that can be incorporated into other genres and work well. Everyone bitching about being too "pop" are just giant shitheads who are jumping on the "hate all mainstream hur dur" bandwagon. Seriously, combining and experimenting with genres is what keeps the music industry from devolving into a giant pile of shit. Maybe if half the people who listened to music were actually decent musicians themselves, they would understand the perspective from developing artists, whether professional or not.

Allan Madhuram Not trying to start a fight here, but I do want a raise a concern about the "unless you can play/write as well as so and so, your opinion is invalid" argument. Remember, you dickwads.. This is only a single off of the record. Don't just flat out say you hate the new intervals.. Fine, you don't like this song, but the fact of the matter is, Intervals haven't strayed to far from their "old" sound. The focus of the harmonizing just switched from a lead guitar to a vocalist. In my opinion, Mikes vokals just added to the awesome. Still chuggy and poppy beats, and great guitar playing. Don't just instantly hate something because it's differerent. This is ofc my opinion, and you are all entitled to your own. Anywho, great work lads. Loved every single minute and measure of the two new singles. Can't wait to hear the rest.

I actually am really digging the new direction with the inclusion of clean vocals. Ive always found the overall tone of intervals music to have a more upbeat and bright feel, compared to the majority of metal where the tone is more sinister and angry (which is good too), but for the sound of intervals I found the vocals a perfect addition . Esp during the ambient/chill sections of the song. Really awesome work :) (again thats just MY opinion, no need for hate)

Intervals was all about instrumental songs, cool rifs and great guitar solos. I think If the songs were bigger that would be great!!! There would be space for the lyrics and for the instrumental parts that intervals was all about... and that's only my sincerely opinion.

Dude, just wait. I don't know if you heard the album teaser they released a few days ago but a few of the track segments sounding pretty damn in depth. Not to say the two songs they released aren't full of depth or space but, I think you know what I'm trying to say.

Sighh.. man idk. I am starting to agree with everyone else. This sounds like mainstream rock to me. Ephemeral at least had that sweet riff in the beginning and ending which made me excited for the new album thinking it could still have somewhat of an old sound to it, but after hearing this I am in doubt. Didn't find the album tease to sound like it either. I still preordered the album because of how much I loved the first two EP's. I understand its their music they can do whatever they want. No shit. Doesn't mean I have to like them still though, do I? They change, fans change. I wish them luck with what they do though. They are all very talented musicians especially Aaron Marshall. I am just saying that I am not sure if I will still be a fan anymore. Especially if they can't release an instrumental version for us older fans.

iscmarkiemark I understand what you're saying. I listen to a lot of different music and there have been several times I've found myself in your situation. The new Young The Giant didn't end up being anything like I expected and I don't like it much at all. I love Interval's first two EP's and I really love what I've heard so far with Mike. I like the more melodic approach they seem to be taking but, I understand everyone has different tastes. It's nice to see that there are still respectful people such as yourself when it comes to stuff like this. Cheers, man!

I love the new vocals. Thought Mike was great in The HAARP Machine, but here I think he sounds even better. Can't wait to hear more from the album.

After this album, Intervals will take over the world. So far, Periphery has kind of "defined" the genre, many vocalists of the genre sound like Spencer. I think this album WILL REDEFINE the genre. Be proud. After listening to this, I am spoiled. Other music just started to sound a little bland in comparison.

I feel like the mid-90s teenager in me that would have hated the last two Intervals releases would LOVE this. Too bad the 28-year-old me LOVES the first two releases and finds this much more generic. I will reserve judgment until I hear the full album.
