One thing that’s slept on with Last Young Renegade is how it’s started this loose storyline. LYR created this character who at the time is struggling with growing up and on that album, is just doing anything in life that helps them feel like they’re never gonna grow up and they’re gonna hold onto their youth both good and bad but at the end of the album, they realize maybe it’s ok to grow up. Wake Up Sunshine starts with Some Kind of Disaster and that’s a continuation of LYR and it’s the acceptance of who the character is as a person and where they are in life. The entire WUS album carries that theme of acceptance and learning how to grow through that after a lot of trials and tribulations in life then at the end of the album, the question asked is where do we go from here after reviving itself through growing up. Tell Me I’m Alive sees the character hitting another rough patch again in life (I think it’s a heartbreak) and starts looking for anything to give themself a feeling again after feeling dead for a while. By the end of the album, the character realizes they’ve drifted away from the person they grew into and are left looking for a way to get back onto the path they had themselves on. Could just be my interpretation of their Fueled By Ramen albums but that’s how I see it.
