Manuela Santacatterina sat down with Jacob Møller, director of MADAME IDA, a film competing at the 42° Torino Film Festival.
During the interview, Jacob Møller shared his thoughts on the inspiration behind Madame Ida, a story that navigates themes of isolation, unconventional family dynamics, and resilience.
MADAME IDA:
In the early 1950s, fifteen-year-old orphan Cecilia becomes pregnant. To hide her unwanted pregnancy, she is sent to live with Ida, who plans to adopt the child. Ida resides in a secluded mansion that was once a vibrant social hub but is now inhabited only by her and her lifelong maid, Alma. While under their care, Cecilia experiences a glimpse of parental love for the first time. As the bond between the three women grows, the approaching birth of Cecilia’s baby challenges their fragile harmony.
