Great effects but ....these guys could not carry the movie as leads. Partially it’s them and their lack of experience, but also the writers for not giving their characters more depth. What the writers gave them also were scripts that were too Hollywood. Having interviewed WWII Navy and Army Air Force personnel including B-29 crew, they just didn’t feel authentic. It was also too soon for Luke Kleintank for this role coming off playing a complex and committed Nazi in Amazon’s Man in the High Castle. I would have cut out the Pearl Harbor scene from the movie too. Was already done in another movie. I understand they didn’t want to redo the first MIdway movie with heavyweights like Charlton Heston and Robert Mitchum. However they could have included the fog of war factor in a better way as that was a key factor in the battle. Luck was a big factor in the battle and that is all missed in the movie. It was also missed that the USS Yorktown was sunk at the end of the battle by the Japanese. Fortunately there was an excellent supporting cast to save the movie. Dennis Quaid, Woody Harrelson, Arron Eckhart. Also worth mentioning is Brennan Brown who reprises Hal Holbrook’s role from the original Midway movie. In spite of just having ended Man in the High Castle, he does An outstanding job to create this character all on his own. Worth seeing but could have been better. Screenplay is definitely better than Pearl Harbor (2001).

Watched it several times in the last couple of weeks, first time I saw it, I was into it. Certainly miles better than Pearl Harbor and Red Tails, not to mention more historically accurate without making it completely Hollywood action crazy. Yeah, it could've been even more better, but making a perfect WWII movie is not easy. Certainly liked the cast, I thought they all did very well with their characters. Dennis Quaid's version of Admiral Halsey was certainly more Admiral Halsey-like than Robert Mitchum's version, which looked more laid back. It's a good movie, nevertheless.
