I am also self taught. I started hand sewing as a little girl. I started a home business 2002 with jewelry and gradually moving into women clothing it took me several years to perfect my sewing skills. In the process I had did redesign and alteration for my customers. I finally move out of my small space in September of 2016 and open up a large women boutique. I also go to stores and look at clothing construction and take clothing apart to learn. You are always learning, which i love to learn. Thank you so much:)

I love that you did this interview! I am also a self-taught designer/dressmaker so I feel like I missed a lot by not going to fashion school or art school. But I read the textbooks and listen to online lectures/videos so I'm also (kind of) proof that people can totally do it.

Self-taught designer here! Practice, practice, practice. Sew, sew, sew. Try, try, try. Don't be afraid to tear it apart and fix it. 2000-2016 home-based historically inspired custom wedding/costuming business. 2016-2020 In-house bridal alterations specialist. 2020~ Owner of the busiest, top-rated bridal alterations shop in the area, with brides sometimes traveling hours (even flying!!!) to have me do their alterations. I now have 6 employees, and we still turn away more work than what we can accept.

I started to sew in 2015 and after creating a lot of products like pencil cases, bag-backs and bags I decided to start doing clothes, and like she said, it's a lot of work but for some particular reason, today of all days, I felt so in touch with this interview. I saw it in the past and today I needed to see it again because I'm starting to see a myself like her (I'm also a self taught sewer). To see someone that already did this process and to see that is posible is amazing. It gives you the motivation to keep trying. Thank you so much for showing us all this content. I am a avid sewer. I used to sew my entire wardrobe when I was working. This was before I knew how to design clothes. I bought patterns and followed the directions on how to,sew it together. I LOVED it, I wanted to be a designer so,I attended college and loved it. It was a worthwhile experience. It broadened my knowledge of fashion design.

I am pretty much self taught. Had 'Home Ec' in high school. Made a jumper and it fit! I have made apparel on and off for 45 years, but really have the sewing bug now. When I shop, I turn the items inside out and study the seaming, etc. Salespeople get upset with me, but I explain that I am not going to buy anything that doesn't have good seaming...They eventually leave me alone. Thanks for all the videos. I have learned so much from them and return to some when I have questions.
