My dad is a farmer in central Finland and when the war broke out the Ukrainians that had worked for us previously came to stay at the farm until they found better accommodation and jobs for themselves.

I'm Finnish myself. All encounters with Ukranians here are absolutely positive, no problems whatsoever. Very polite, kind people. I've had experience before as i've worked with a Ukranian friend for many years...Got invited to their home few times, very genuine, helpful and good loving people as you get to know them.

Finnish kids/woman only got help from sweden when russians attacked here. I still support helping every woman, kid or elder as refugee from ukraine to finland and more military help to Ukraine!

Different experience from working at a club. Most of the people thrown out for misbehaviour in the Helsinki area are Ukranian "men"/draft dodgers.

i completely understand Ukrainians missing their home country and deciding to go back even if it's dangerous, especially when they have a language barrier like Marina's mother and grandmother. I'm happy for Marina that she found a possible future for her in Finland and that she has the option to continue living in Finland after the war is over. But it's true, that being able to speak english is an important skill to have in order to have an easier beginning in a country like Finland where the language is so different from most other languages. Also what she said about smaller Finnish cities/towns is true, people are more relaxed and more willing to say hi to strangers, start conversations in places like food stores etc. I think this mentality is the same in other countries as well, the bigger the city, the more busy the people feel/are and are less likely to say hi and talk to strangers. Marina has such a nice personality and great positive outlook on life and I wish all the best for her and ukrainians in general! :)

Really interesting interview, thank you for filming this! As a Finn raised in a smaller town I can agree that people tend to say hi if you look at them even if you don't know them. At least in my hometown it was common, if you make eye contact while passing each other on a quieter street you say hi but if you decide yourself to not look at the other person, you will pass each other quietly. Though I always had dogs with me while outside, so those happy "moikka!" greetings tented to often expand into conversations about dogs and those stangers became "hyvän päivän tuttu" you'd stop to say hi and change few words when met with on a walk etc. Now that I'm a university student in a bigger city, that doesn't happen as often.

It's quite normal to say hi to people in the streets in a villages in Finland. The smaller the village, more likely that is. You either know (of) someone or you assume they are relative/friend of someone you know since they are there. 😃 You still probably wouldn't start to proper conversation with strangers even there 😄 In the cities you might not even say hi to your neighbours in the same apartment building which I find a bit sad. I almost always say hi for people in our own building even if I know non of them.

Even if I don't personally know the person, in a small municipality it's possible to connect with person by stating name of your parents or by telling the names of your grandparents depending usually on the age of the questioner. Or by telling simply in which house you live in. Or if you moved to the area because of marriage, you can state the name of your spouse.

I mean, this is the way that taking refugees should be look like. She told that Gran ma, mom, sister and her came here.. There is plenty of this kind of stories, but the refugees what is harmful (IN MY OPINION), is the cultural destroyers. I really think that the safety is the #1 priority, for the good and 'balanced' life. Finland has been one of the most safetiest countries in the world, but its going rn in the wrong way, because of NOT this type of immigration. Maybe some people don't like my opinion, but; it is what it is. PS. Good video again Daiki!
