"They were like psychedelic cowboys or something." What a great quote. RIP Jerry

I LOVE that statement Carlos made towards the end: "... and that High. Not neccessarily drugs, but High." Anybody who TRULY "got" the The Dead's/Jerry's music would fully understand the meaning of that statement. I mean, there is no doubt that there were drugs on the concert scenes... However, what truly reached people and kept them coming back & listening to their music was (and is) much more powerful and trascendental that any drug could ever be !!

"Breakout music just for kids...should always be offensive to adults." How true those words are now that I'm a parent with kids that listening to gawd-knows-what. HA! I still play Terrapin Station as loud as I want--cause I know it offends my kids. HA!

i remember when i first discovered the dead about 9 years ago, i was downloading one of their videos from a guy in the usa and we got chatting on lime wire or whatever it was at the time, i was telling him how much i like their stuff and he agreed then said "its a shame about jerry "and he explained that he was dead...i said which one's jerry and he told me "the lead guitarist" and i was instantly gutted...on a positive note the dead are great and their fans are great people, thanks GD & FANS :)

A favorite GD comment came from my mother. Upon seeing an early '70's Warner Brothers' poster of the band she said, " They certainly are not very attractive men, are they?"

"I can't imagine rock n' roll without the grateful dead...." someone please explain this to my History of Rock n Roll professor!!!! I mean, seriously, we've learned all about the sixties hippie revolutions and its relation to music without even mentioning the dead once!!! WTF

I don't like how they just play the "drivin that train high on cocaine" line of casey jones, the dead were not all for drugs. don't get me wrong they did plenty of em but people just get the wrong impression of the dead and its not kool, it shouldn't be like that.

Very interesting - David Fricke looked like a cross between Ray Manzarek (who I thought it was at first in the interview) and Tom Scholz.

Sadly, Jerry was a much better symbolic dad than a real one, according to his children. I often wonder why famous beloved artists get a pass for human failings. It doesn't diminish his musical influence, I'm just being honest.
