Interview w/ Juan Garcia Esquivel (1968?) - "Bob Wilkins Interviews Hollywood"

From the DVD "Bob Wilkins Interviews Hollywood," some old unreleased TV footage around 1968 (according to former wife, Yvonne DeBourbon Rodriguez). A fan provided this to Mr. Ho of Mr. Ho's Orchestrotica - the world's only group that performs Esquivel's large-ensemble space-age pop music live with a 22pc big band.

Esquivel is a musical genius and a true gentleman from the old school. An electrical engineer by training, he found more success making some of the most life affirming music in the world. I'm grateful that Esquivel spoke English here. His warmth and patience with some of the interviewer's questions is a reflection of his great nature. Thanks for posting this video.

Esquivel fue un musico autodidacta con un don especial....pianista virtuoso .. aprendió a leer musica por su cuenta..y tenia la capacidad para hacer arreglos orquestables ..desde los 14 años ya dirigia musicos ..en mexico nunca hubiera seguido desarrollando su talento natural , tuvo la Fortuna que lo contrataran como director , arreglista y compositor en USA y ahi hizo grabaciones experimentales de covers populares mexicanos e internacionales Adelantados a su epoca , acompaño a frank Sinatra en las vegas donde tuvo su orquesta por casi 10 años.. Ingeniero electronico de profesion con lo cual hizo esperimentos musicales adaptados a su musica

it's hard to believe that someone would be ignorant enough to call juan garcia esquivel a "hoax". of course, according to the "rules", it's okay to say (almost) anything you want in youtube comments - so, if people like that wish to display their ignorance, those of us who know better merely get out of the way and let them display themselves, in public, for what they are. but for those eager folk who are beginning to explore this fascinating genre of music, it would be better to let these explorers hear the music, and listen to the artist speak about his music, and then form their own opinions. to those who do not appreciate or understand this genre - well, why are you here? just go away, and leave us to appreciate the beauty that we hear in this music. we promise to offer you the same courtesy (right, everyone? - let's be polite).

hola. gracias por el interés. pues no tengo taaanta información. mi abuelo me contó muy pocas anécdotas, porque cuando yo estaba más chica, no tenía yo tanta consciencia de la importancia de Esquivel. él murió en 1999. no sé si algunos de mis tíos tengan esa info. uno de los que sabía más también ya murió y otro vive en Mexicali, quien quizá tenga más anécdotas. mis tías (las que le siguen), creo que saben menos. Pero sería complicado. No sé qué necesites saber exactamente :)

My mind is blown! Bob Wilkins was a late night TV legend introducing horror films on "Creature Features" in the San Francisco Bay Area. And Harvey's Tahoe which was ultra cool in the 70's with the glass elevator to the "Top of the Wheel" tiki restaurant. Glad I lived those days.
