Interview with a pigeon expert, new drop trap, settling update

Good idea! We have 12 more coming in the next few weeks. I need a little larger loft. It is in the works. Hopefully this summer. I have my nine birds that finished the 2022 season, maybe keep over some of these, bring in a dozen or so late hatches and fly old birds in 2024. We will see how this goes! Thanks for your support!

Awesome video! Great job Tom.. They are coming along very nice!. The new drop trap is A-1. I had one just like it in my loft. The Jersey Terror may be the bully here.. Notice how he pushes his way to the front of the line to get into the loft the quickest.. 🤣🤣

I hear you, if my weather will stays clear we are close to getting these birds up. Guy with the pink gun ships next week. Robertson and Redstar I think April 3. Not sure about Quintero, Hawkbait. Andrei has babies in the nest, middle of April.

I would give them one ounce per bird in the evening. Open hole them and they will be fine. When they come back in feed them the one ounce. Your doing an amazing job but I think your doing more than what’s needed.

Thanks George! Better to do more than needed, than not enough, right? I have since moved to just once a day feeding. The biggest issue I have is adding more birds every week. I spend about twenty minutes a day with birds and I really enjoy that time.

@@littleloftonthehill this is what I do when I have new birds. I lock all the birds up for one week. Use a settling cage. Then feed as normal let the birds go in and out of the settling cage. After one week take the setting cage off. Your birds will train the new birds. You won’t have to do anything. Just stick to one ounce per bird till they are really trained up. This works for me.

Most likely not trapping because you are over feeding the bird.

Guilty as charged, that is one of the challenges I am facing with the small loft and adding a couple new birds every other week or so, two more this morning

@@littleloftonthehill a bird should only be eating about 1 tablespoon per day. At least this was the case for my Birmingham Rollers. Racers might need just a little more.
