The 2019 OHSU Woodcock Memorial Lecture was delivered by Adam Phillips. One of the world’s leading essayists, literary critics and psychoanalysts, Phillips has published books on topics ranging from Freud and Winnicott to Proust and Houdini, from kindness to missing out. He is general editor of the Penguin Modern Classic Freud series and visiting professor at the University of York.
Phillips' visit was generously supported by Dr. Jeffrey Hays, who started this lecture series to celebrate Dr. Herbert Woodcock, a child and adolescent psychiatrist (CAP) who helped found the OHSU CAP Training Program. During Phillips' visit, CAP Training Director Dr. Craigan Usher had a chance to connect with him at Powell’s City of Books. Here are excerpts from their November 8, 2019, interview.
