Me and my best mate Mark Mckenna adored the Blues and Alex was our god. We would visit his milkbar in Heidelberg and buy anything we could think of just to be served by him. Always courteous friendly and cool.

Used to watch him play for Eastlake in Canberra before he went down to Carlton. Me on the boundary line and Jezza 20m way climbing over blokes' shoulders. Life was good.

My favourite player of all time. Why? Well, he was a genuine freak of a player, a beautiful runner, tough as nails, elegant - he just had that aura about him every time he pulled on the navy blue. Plus, he's a genuinely nice man, very grounded and humble. When all the greats like Bartlett, Blight and Matthews speak so highly of Jezza, it's because he was one of a kind. Most of my great childhood memories are of watching the mighty Blues in the '70s, and seeing genuine brilliance in the form of one Alex Jesaulenko.

Hawthorn opponent Leigh Matthews said “Jezza was the Buddy Franklin of his era. He was a fantastic mark, but was fantastic at ground level, and that combination doesn't exist in many players. Jezza was a freak. He was about 182 cm, only a couple inches taller than me. He was a bit like Darrel Baldock of the '60s; great balance, low centre of gravity, sensational overhead”.

Sounds like Doug Booth did the interview rather than Drew Morphett.
