I believe Amitabh was under tremendous financial pressure of a tremendous loan in the days when this interview was shot( 1997- 1999). He had a loan/ liability in excels of 100 crores ( caused by hsi company ABCL's failure) and even payment of interest or EMI was becoming difficult for him, leave alone paying back the capital amount. Hence he appears very stressed and down and worried and even confesses he worries about basic necessities of life like Roti Kapda aur makan. It was in the year 2000 when Bachchan sahab got the role of the anchor in kaun banega karodpati-- a TV show, that his luck changed . also in those days he befriended a powerful politician Amar Singh and through him Anil Ambani , the billionaire. Amitabh never looked back after that. he paid off his loan and if I am to understand correctly, he is worth more than 3000 crore Rupees today.
