One of the best on the channel. Especially found it interestingly in that he had a slow start, and it just clicked for him at 30 hrs. I have heard other pilots say the same, at one point in training it all feel into place for them. This is the type of captain of an era long go, the golden age of classy flying.

Captain John Hutchinson is real inspiration to me. I saw him at Yeovilton in Somerset giving a talk on the Air France accident about 10 years ago. Listening to this interview is fascinating. He reminds me of my aspirations on dreaming about aircraft. The same inbred joy of flight. I build model aircraft - warbirds to be precise which is my accuse for not becoming a pilot. Great respect to you John.

What an impressive man John Hutchinson is. I hope he is well and still enjoying life. Earlier in his career he survived a fatal crash on a BOAC Boeing 707 flight from LHR to Australia in 1968. He was the FO. An engine caught fire just after take off and then detached completely, causing a fire to start on the wing. The Captain landed safely just two and half minutes later, but the fire spread rapidly. All but four passengers and one flight attendant survived in the rapid evacuation of the stricken plane. The flight crew had to escape the cockpit using the emergency rope. The flight attendant who died Barbara Harrison was posthumously awarded the George Cross for her bravery. Don't know if John Hutchinson has ever talked about this. Very sad that Concorde is grounded for good and will never fly again.

John was the founder of the BA Flightrider club for kids, that later became the Skyflyers Club. I was a founder member, used to get a magazine every 4 months. John had a great column inside, with a cool picture of him standing next to Concorde. He was an idol to me. I still have my membership cards, they're special to me.

What an amazing guy! He tells his stories so well with a very subtle injection of dry humour along the way. He said his 80th birthday was a month away (when filmed) and yet he seemed more 'sorted' than many people far his junior. What a wonderful gentleman and an excellent video, thank you.

So wonderful to hear of John's joy and support of charter operations. I was able to buy my mum and dad just such a flight in the early 90s: It was a long-held dream of my aviation enthusiast dad. He spoke of it until the day of his passing and my mum still does. They had such a wonderful time. ... just a little human story, which I'm sure was mirrored by many thousands of other enthusiast passengers

John is something really special. I love his description of his learning. Also, his interview after the crash of 4590 was the best of the best. Totally explained the accident, and a fair bit of blame goes to Air France.

My Dad used to take me to Heathrow just to see the Concorde land ... It was a program for families on Sunday Speaking about 1975- 77 somewhere there .... Next time I seen the Concorde was in 2000 CDG - Paris having been said I completely forgotten the seventies ,but than I remembered

When I was a kid one of the videos I used to love watching was one mum recorded of Farnborough 1988 and the TV special Holiday Air '88, both of which were narrated by/featuring John. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed watching this! Thank you for a fantastic hour :-)

The captain and shift commander French frog Labonte was no joke. He did a Air show with the concord he did a touch and go on one dolly, that's insane ur talking 120 tons. Amazing sir.

Great interview! One thing you can say about Mr. Hutchinson -- he witnessed and participated in history as commercial aviation entered the golden age of jets and he was PRIVILEGED to be involved with Concorde. He might be the best-known living Concorde pilot now, right? Well, anyway, he's lived an interesting life and the interview might have only scratched the surface of his stories. Boeing 707, 747, VC-10, Concorde! Any one of those planes would make a great commercial career but he got to fly all of them! P.S. -- Today's probably at least the second, maybe the third time I've listened to this interview. I'll probably watch the Concorde accident thoughts follow-up. Sad but interesting story. It has parallels with other technical disasters like Titanic, Hindenburg, and Challenger. Complacency killed the passengers and crew in all cases.

There was a unique smell to the aircraft on takeoff and landing, and I wondered if it was just me. After Concorde ceased flying I was glad to hear it mentioned a documentary! Great aircraft, the service on board was exceptional at a time when BA really had a great reputation, sadly now diluted, I knew lots of US friends who went out of their way to fly BA...

When my grandfather was growing up in E. Tenn, he would ride a mule bareback everywhere he needed to get to. When he was in his early 70s, he and my Dad took a father/son trip to Israel, Ireland, and London. Coming home to the US they took Concorde London/New York. This guy could have been their pilot. The one that remarked, after being told of Grandpa's childhood, how does it feel to be going mach 2 after having traveled no faster than mule speed?

I'm still gutted to this day that I missed my chance to fly on Concorde, I could have but I honestly didn't think it would stop flying when she did, otherwise I definitely would have flown on her in the late 90's just to have flown the Concorde. Strangely I've never been on a 747 either after going across the Atlantic 4 times. I wonder if I'll also miss flying the Jumbo too?

The Concorde was in fact the first highly computerized (analog) airliner it wasn't any more or less automated than modern airliners capable of landing itself just like today the decision to rely on these systems is the pilot's to make - some airlines do mandate certain portions be flown by the automation. Sully's plane , the A320, is actually the very first fully digital airliner the presence of these systems both helped and hindered his landing it's not black and white and they certainly do not detract from his superior decision making and airmanship

It was the shape of the wings that caused the Russian Tu-144 to crash. Their copy had slightly different shape to the wing, with different lift characteristics
