Fascinating. My friends wife was an air stewardess for over thirty years and it’s good to hear Captain Hutchinson state the importance of that role. When people call them “Trolley Dollies” it shows such ignorance and disrespect.

BOAC Flight 712 Whiskey echo as it's referd to in this vid claimed the lives of 4 passengers and Stewardess Barbara Jane Harrison who was among the crew members who helped passengers escape from the burning Boeing 707. The exit slide had not deployed correctly and Miss Harrison was encouraging passengers to jump to the runway surface, and in some cases, even pushed them out. She was seen standing in a doorway as the flames and smoke spread, and people below, including the airplane’s captain, Cliff Taylor, shouted at her to jump. Instead, she turned away and went back inside, presumably to help a disabled passenger in a wheelchair Four other passengers also died. she was posthumously awarded the George Cross for her role in the evacuation of BOAC Flight 712 . She gave her life to help others. Later, the bodies of Miss Harrison and the disabled passenger were found next to each other . She is one of four women to have been awarded the George Cross for heroism, and the only woman awarded the medal on that basis for gallantry in peacetime. The other three female George Cross recipients served with the Special Operations Executive in occupied France during the Second World War. I AM SO GLAD JOHN mentioned her and the 4 passengers ..as a member of the flight crew he prob knew her well as a crew member (as most pilots/ flight crew do with cabin crew on difrent flights) and im sure even though they were making light of it (as in the interviewer joking or laughing about the 2 arcraft john was invloved in accident wise) With WHISKEY ECHO whenTALKING ABOUT IT AND TELLING THE STORY EVEN after all these yrs you can still see a bit of remorse/ pain / seriousness on his face when recounting it ! EVEN though John carried on flying and became a concord pilot those incidents never leave you and still have a profound effect on you when you lose lives on an arcraft you help to fly etc! THANKFULLY he managed to carry on with his career ( alot of pilots dont after a devasting crash and loss of lives be it one or fifty as a pilot you feel responsible for all your passengers in your care) 😉💅
