except that in all other states other caste people too take part in these arts.but in TN due to the different socio-political culture non-brahmins hardly take up these arts.That's why Tamils don't have any singers it's 75% mallu singers (of all castes)+20% Tambrahms+ 5% North Indians. who stops non Tamil brahmins from taking up these arts? you it's also ironical when these arts are mentioned as "Tamil" non-brahmin Tamils quickly dismiss it as "oh, it's brahmin culture".so what can the certain section of people do? you people will not take up arts at the same time you will brahmins dominate it? so what do you want actually? wanting to have it both ways?

I have seen many Interviews with TM Krishna from different TV channels. None of the channels bothered to whole heartily wish him for his achievement. I could only see that, all questioning him as if he has done something that's not really acceptable in the society. All he wishes is that every one has the right to enjoy the harmony of music and every one has equal rights to deliver it in saba irrespective of caste and color. Mr Guna (Interviever) you need to understand that TM Krishna is doing this noble job to the welfare Grandson and Grand daughters. why dont you Understand, and keep on questioning him when he says that the Quality of music will only improve if people from all stages steps into this Art. My question is what have we done apart from questioning him ? INTHA NOTTI NONANATIYAM YELLAM TERIYAMA THAN FRENCH KARAN VIRUTHU KUDUTHIRUKANA ???? Sorry to use harsh words, only then you will understand the heat of the situation. Its really shame on ""ALL INDIAN CULTURE'S (Plural- as said in the interview) "" that we haven't even congratulated him. My whole point is there is no point in discussing whether he is right or Wrong. A Foreign government has given him a award , Its our civic responsibility to congratulate him, rather than interrogating him. We all should be aware that the person who gave the award is still watching us, and if we keep on doing, will it not be a huge humiliation to our self's. The three stalwarts of carnatic music sang with BHAKTI, with a view to attain moksham, not for any other purpose! The words in the ragas, the course of each raga, are divine, and the singer himself or herself can realise this in uccha sthai and almost union with god!!!! Provided the bhakti element is dominant!!!!! Singing for pleasing the audience only, without intention to reach high union with god, is of no use for self elevation.perhaps., TMK did not reach this high elevation! Because, now he is bold to mix politics of dravidians, of samooha needhi, in music!!!!

A commendable pursuit - access of art to everyone and access of all types of art to everyone is good - rather the best that can happen to the art itself.And it certainly does help in breaking social barriers. But there are some "pethal" in his opinion. Some art forms are indeed better (more difficult to master, acquire the discipline) than others. Can we say Pop and Jazz are just the same? obviously not!

My suggestion to Krishna: You. are capable of earning a lot thro your music You can give ‘normal “. Performances and make use of the money and use that money for teaching music ( vocal, instrument. etc) to poor students from all community Those who can afford to pay can give donations to your institution and learn from you Work with a proper syllabus Appoint like minded musicians to teach such students This.may bring about some glaring change in a period of ten years or so This is all you have to do Otherwise , I don’t find any other method by which you can imbibe this music in them If you are really keen., get into action No point in talking about it any length of time I have more ideas but want to know your opinion God bless you

very good interview , T.M.Krishna has an acute sociological view , but why is every one so reluctant to make classical music popular ?? most of the now known as classic art works have been immensely popular during the days they were created ( Shakespeare plays ran to packed houses , Michelangelo worked on commision basis which was very high that the clergy had to raise amount from many landlords to pay him , Beethoven ,Mozart, Alan Silieri were like the beatles of their time ) so why is Carnatic so reluctant to try anything different ? . May be T.M.Krishna would be under more criticism if he did that also , any congrats for the award Mr.Krishna , and please come back to the December season sabhas , we miss you
