Oral history with Ryan Rosado, singer for Johnny Cage is a Fake, recorded on July 18, 2024, as part of the "Uptown Rumble: Heavy Music in The Bronx" project at The Bronx County Historical Society. The interviewer is Steven Payne, director of The Bronx County Historical Society.
In his oral history, Ryan speaks about his family history and background, growing up on Marion Avenue, Concourse Village as a young child and then on Stratford Avenue in the Soundview section of The Bronx (primarily), his discovery of rock music via Guns and Roses at age 10 and his developing taste for heavier music, where and how he would discover new bands and get new albums, hanging out as a kid at neighborhood pizza shops with arcade games, his early love of movies and video games, getting more into The Bronx music scene and eventually auditioning as vocalist/screamer for Johnny Cage is a Fake (started by Bronx hardcore veterans Gigi Cano and Will Gomez, with Dean Landy on guitar), practicing and developing songs with Johnny Cage is a Fake, his approach to writing lyrics and screaming techniques, some of his favorite songs, performing live and touring with the band, what things were like in the recording studio with the band, the departure of Gigi from the band and bringing on Alex from Bronx band Rights Reserved as drummer, the dissolution of the band, the development of his musical palette since then, and much more.
