I love the part where he was saying that when as a child instead of playing with toys he played with plants, and summer had a knowing smile as if thinking same here.

Euphorbia abdelkuri! I love this plant. There are a handful of specimens growing on its native island. I never heard of seeds being available; I think all the plants on the market today are originated from cuttings of the few specimens collected in the 60s and 70s. Once again, thanks for taking us to that amazing market. That place is heaven. Anyway, if you return to the Bay Area, I would be happy to show you my succulent collection: mostly Euphorbiae from Madagascar and a few of these Socotra plants you showed in the video. I have over 200 plants crammed on a small balcony. I guess you know how that feels. :)

Socotra has the most alien-looking and interesting flora in the world, in my opinion! Would be stoked if you go there someday, Summer!

Perhaps! So far not much funding for botanical episodes; but I do what I can!

So awesome! this was such an interesting video, he is so passionate about his plants and his love of all plants, it was so fun listening to him talk about the interesting cacti and succulents he is growing, you can tell how much he loves what he does, when he talks about the plants he just radiates happiness. He has so many beautiful cacti that it makes me want to start collecting them and searching for the unique and interesting ones, I did pick up a madagascar palm, which is so cool, so far it likes where I have it growing. Thank you so much Summer this was fun, bye for now.

summer, i enjoyed this episode very much. brings back great memories, i had adenium socotranum, dorstenia gigas and dendrosicyos socotranus several years ago. i also found a weird euphorbia from socotra but had no luck growing it. there is a great book "caudiciform and pachycaul succlents" by rowley that is excellent. i have another book that i believe is just called "socatra". can't find it right now to give you the author but it is also excellent . your viewers should just watch some videos on socatra it is an amazing place.

One can appreciate and admire when a multi-talented individual chooses to pursue their true passion in life. ~ I recently was going to purchase a Dendrosicyos socotranus, about the same size as pictured herein, from a local grower who grew it from seed, which they mentioned was difficult to obtain. When I was told $75.00 , I decided to pass. I’m not so serious a collector as to justify such indulgence! ~ I believe only a few westerners are allowed to visit Socotra a week. Luckily the habitat is being protected. I think around 70% of the native plant species are endemic.

google socatra, an amazing place. check out the dragon trees. it's off the coast of yemen so probably not safe to go there now. would make a great field trip though!
@StephanieMerchakMusic5 жыл бұрын
It would be great because this island has some of the most interesting and striking flora. but unfortunately it wouldn't be possible now. All touristic flights to Socotra have been cancelled since the war involving Yemen and Saudi Arabia started. The only flights remaining are connections with Abu Dhabi to provide Socotra residents with access to healthcare and work opportunities.
