Believe it or not, he and Brad Pitt won "Worst Movie Couple" Razzie for this movie. I strongly disagree with that award btw, especially in regards to Tom (Brad acting was indeed a bit stiff at the time, he was far from a great actor back then, but I think he was still passable all things considered, mainly due to his stunning looks), but that's the kind of recognition they got for their performances. I think the film itself and the critics' reaction to it left a bad taste for both of them. lol I'm sure for Cruise it was like the coldest shower he had ever had. Me too.... I loved the books growing up and reread them repeatedly through the 80's... but when I heard they were making this film starring Tom Cruise as Lestat, I was in a word, outraged. He was the farthest thing in my imagination from anyone ever playing Lestat. Yet like you I was blown away by him and didn't see Tom Cruise pretending to be Lestat... I simply saw Lestat. I didn't really like Cruise as an actor back then but as he's grown older, I've grown to appreciate his work and films. But even now nearly 30 years later, it still blows my mind that this is Tom Cruise because the character is so completely different from anything else he's ever done. In every film, Tom Cruise plays Tom Cruise. But in this, he really was a magnificent Lestat.

I remember seeing this in the theatre, I was 12. We were so stoked for this to come out. In my view, it still holds up as one of the best damn films ever made. Even actress Kirsten Dunst who played Claudia said they just don't make films like this anymore. What makes it so great is that they were able to take two extremely well-known actors of that time; one who was in his prime (Cruise) and the other, (Pitt) who had literally just blown up maybe a year or two before, having never taken on a role like this, and they were able to pull off these literary characters so bloody well that you completely forgot it was even them. Definitely not an easy thing to do, for any actor. But I think the appeal also lies in the fact that in watching this, you're kind of reminded of a more innocent time. This was long before Cruise went off the deep end with all the Scientology nonsense, and most people really had no clue whatsoever about the darker side of Hollywood. In any case, like the characters themselves, this film will never get old, and it will never die.

I love this scene! What a great ending!

This was my favorite ending out of all the movies that I would enter as people left the theater as an usher. Cleaning out theaters was so much better to the tune of "Sympathy for the Devil" as covered by Guns n Roses. Don't hate me, not every movie played where worked in 1994-95.

It always bugged me that they never did a direct sequel where Lestat and Christian Slater had vampire adventures in the modern era.

Ikr? I don't think it would be neccesary a second part, but Im dying to know what would happen with the 3 of them in this era with all the technology we have. Sorry for my english I'm learning by my owm.

Me too. I'm not sure if Louis was still in it but Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise did not get along and never filmed a movie together again after this one.

Seeing as Malloy was wanting what Louis had even though he had just told him in painstaking detail how much of a hell it is to be a vampire, I imagine he took up Lastat's offer to become a vampire. Because even when told how much pain it brings, some still want to live forever.
@prankster1590 Жыл бұрын
It brought pain to Louis. For Louis being human was already painful. When he was turned he was on the verge of suicide. You Know. Whiny whiny Louis. Lestat embraced and loved it.

The only thing unrealistic about this scene (apart from, you know, VAMPIRES) is how calm everything is in that car. You cannot even stand still on the Golden Gate bridge without nonstop 20-50mph winds coming from the pacific. Hair whipping like crazy, it's like being in a constant wind tunnel. Yet their hair is mostly untousled, the tape player is audible, and Lestat can speak in a conversational level instead of shouting. Lol!

"unrealistic"???.....did you realize this is a movie about vampires ???

I always interpreted this scene as Lestat finally getting over Louis and realizing that there's other fish in the sea. Louis may have been the 'hero' of the movie but, let's face it, he DID spend the whole movie whining! Lestat could do better.
@danielchoquette53715 ай бұрын
In the books, it is different. Lestat writes in TVL that he created Louis to be his conscience, to mete out year after year his punishment for failing with Nicki and to a fair extent, Gabrielle. As the VC continues, they become the eternal couple with Lestat coming back to Louis again and again, even saving his life and making Louis more powerful.
