This might be the best Tribes based interview I have ever heard. This guy is tops.

Bro, you are taking me back so far. I remember interviewing Brandon Reinhart and asking him to explain heightmaps because of Tribes. I'm getting nostalgia overload. The late 90s/early 00s internet where smart people just shared ideas and discussed things - no algorithms. Corporate was still trying to figure out a way to monetize everything, meanwhile people my age were just scrambling to make something cool. "Oh you did this? Well I took your idea and I added X and Y!" I had ZERO idea the Dynamix guys were so young when they started. I remember playing Red Baron on the Amiga as a kid. It's insane to think Scott was literally just a year or two older than I was. I was writing articles about Tribes and other games, and a peer of mine was making the games I was obsessed with. Wild.

To the guy who asked about how many engineers this game spawned, I may not be a dev or engineer, but my career in IT was definitely thanks to T1, T2 and the things I learned in goofing around with my PC, skins, etc

:raises-hand: another software engineer here who's very first look at code was through T2 scripting!

what a great moment you captured. tribes doesn't have to live in its IP, it is set loose in our imaginations.

Awesome interview. The style is nostalgic, reminds me of hanging out in TeamSpeak and Ventrilo channels chatting with the fellas. Thanks to Scott, Fishstix and the other guys! 🍻

Awesome interview! Tribes 3 was the first time I've played a Tribes game in many years. Horribly disappointed how it turned out but I might have to go back to the old ones since it seems like they got a boost.

Wanted to add that I did NOT make snow blind, Mark Frohnmayer made that map initially, I just massaged it for gameplay when we understood skiing more. Same with rain dance.

Damn, i thought a very merry discmas was already over, but here we are! Always thought it was cool he let that silly little bug persist in their neato team game 💖

Around 20:30 they are talking about the e3 demo for tribes 2 and something about water...but I went back and looked at the T2 E3 demo and there is no water in it. I don't get it.

I've been thinking about this interview and I think my one big question would be - why was the base game/mod slow for Tribes 2? Classic very quickly became the 'standard' mod that everyone played. My favourite 'fun fact' about Tribes 2 is that the light female player model has a broken left ankle. Once you see it, you'll never unsee it.

That's a great question. Maybe next time

What was the downfall of the game? After T2 I could not get my hands on a competitive shooter ever! Former Q3 arena and Unreal player. Tribes hit my market. It cannot be replaced. T3 felt good but was dumped once again. I was disappointed. What will it take to make it great again?

Same... I got into CS 1.6, UT (99, 2003 and 2004) but nothing ever filled the void left by T2. Those days were my personal golden era of gaming. I still miss T2 to this day - all the clan matches in particular. What a time to be a gamer.
