I didn’t understand why Josh saying a minor’s (or actually a 19 year old as we now know) sexuality was not his business was wrong. He’s right. It’s not. Josh was setting a boundary between older person and teen and Johnny kept pushing it by asking more. The part I felt more sus about was the not to tell his parents. But even then, I could see it being out of a sense of fear his parents would retaliate and kick him out. Was it the best response? No. But it wasn’t a giant grooming tactic being deployed.
@NoraNekoNikki

It breaks my heart to hear the victims’ tone instinctively change like they’re trying to minimize their experiences to keep the peace whenever Ethan asks them a question meant for them to be able to share their side more completely. Like when Ethan asked Johnny to explain how Colleen abused her power and Johnny’s tone immediately shifted to that “well it wasn’t THAT bad” kind of tone cause these victims are so used to defending a predator because they thought she was their friend. 😢

Or maybe it wasn’t as bad as it’s currently being played out online? I want to be 💯 clear- I am not saying this to defend Colleen - what she did was incredibly inappropriate & obviously harmful for the minors involved. I actually think it’s really important to NOT make things out to be more than they were for exactly that reason- bcuz then it becomes really easy to minimize all but the most harmful behaviour. Both for the people doing it & the public. internet celebrity Interacting w minors who are emotionally vulnerable & have parasocial relationships with them can be incredibly influential & damaging to the these kids emotional & psychological development - just bcuz of the relationship the kids are experiencing being way more meaningful & impactful than it is to the internet celebrities. There doesn’t need to be more nefarious intention or behaviour than that to cause deep & long-term harm, esp at that stage in life & depending on what else the minor is going thru. And that’s the point, these are kids/ppl you know nothing about!! Johnny & Josh’s relationship is a perfect example of that. Josh didn’t do anything “criminal” to Johnny which makes it’s super easy for ppl, and probably him, to say it’s not his responsibility, the kid has parents- in this case, parents who were involved & well aware of the relationship - he thought it would be cool for his fans to get to interact with their favourite internet celebrity, he was just trying to be nice to this kid! I mean, we’re all forgetting that there was no manual for how internet celebrities interact with fans - part of the draw/interest was that they were “just normal ppl on the internet”. Plus, there’s the dynamic that the way that internet celebrities keep their celebrity/fame/money is by interacting with their fans and keeping them engaged & supportive. Humans are messy and complex and self-centred and it’s way too easy for someone to tell themselves and other ppl that if they aren’t intending to cause harm, then somehow that makes it not as bad. Which obvi isn’t the case for the person who experienced it. When instead what people should be doing is putting intent into NOT causing harm. And we can’t do better, until we know better - and we Cant do that until we actually have to acknowledge it wasn’t okay in the first place. And when you’ve got thousands/millions of people telling you that what you’re doing is good and celebrating you it’s pretty easy to tell yourself it’s not that big of a deal. Colleen is obvi a damaged individual - tbh, the sexualized content gives vibes that something happened in her history, and we also definitely know that she grew up in a puritanical Christian household where sex/sexuality is twisted. I don’t think this was about sexual attraction/gratification on Colleens part. Again, doesn’t make any of it okay. Which is the point - it shouldn’t take that for ppl to understand that this isn’t okay. Think about it - the reason Adam got so much pushback when he talked about what Colleen did the first time is bcuz “ it wasn’t that bad”, when just what he shared there was absolutely bad/harmful for him. K, I have to get back to work. I hope this made sense.
@imymcginty
@imymcginty Жыл бұрын
@@deltawhiskey1998 I stopped reading when you insinuated it wasn’t as bad as it’s being played out online… When all the victims’ stories have receipts to prove it actually happened the way they said and there’s, you know, the federal crime of it all. I’d say that’s pretty damn bad. And no thesis you write is going to change that. Especially when most of your comment follows a statement of claiming you’re not defending her or excusing her… “BUT”… Which the word “but” negates everything you said before it. “But” means “forget what I just said, let me tell you how I really feel.” If you’re not here to support the victims, that’s your prerogative, but I’m not going to entertain you trying to minimize their experiences by acting like any of these victims have said they thought Colleen was trying to be romantically sexual with them. Grooming is not purely sexual, as has been made very clear across all these victims’ stories.

Although I do agree that Johnny definitely hijacked this entire interview (allegedly he was telling people he was going to be the “leader”) all this does is show that the hosts aren’t all that great when it comes to things like this. Maybe one or two guests is fine but johnny kept talking because they allowed him to. They kept asking only him questions. They could’ve easily asked in multiple occasions “Do you guys feel the same way?” “Can you guys relate to this?” “I’d love to hear from Becky/Oliver but thanks Johnny, we’ll come back to you”. He spoke the first entire half because they facilitated the space for him to do so. The other two weren’t as vocal when it came to their turn but if it was me and they let that guy go for 30min I’d probably feel that they weren’t as invested in hearing my story and likely wouldn’t say much. It’s hard to relive trauma as is. Not everyone can be a true journalist and/or mediator (and that’s okay) but if you’re going to take on these roles you gotta educate yourselves in how to do it

Bruh why are some of the comments are borderline upset with “too much coverage”? Three years ago she got away with it and spun around more shit after that because of what? Not enough coverage. Adam for examples was bullied for years exactly because there not enough coverage on his side that she got her fans to redirect attention elsewhere that doesn’t matter. Anybody with new information can drag her daily if it means getting more 13 years old kids away from her reach.

Because this is supposed to be a comedy show and while it is nice that they are giving the victims a platform they still need to understand that the show is for the viewers and nobody wants to watch this. Respectfully, I think this should’ve been three separate interviews as these three experiences are wildly different so there’s not enough common ground for there to be interplay between the guests. This means you have to basically just talk to one person for a while let the other two sit around possibly feeling invalidated for not being afforded the space to tell their own story. Good practice would be rotating prepared questions and giving space for the individuals to jump in and interact with the line of questioning from another interviewee. This way is more democratic and creates the feeling of a group of people talking rather than three disparate conversations.

I agree, it’s fantastic they all have a platform to speak out but so much time was spent talking to one person and I can’t imagine being one of the other people both listening to someone else’s experience and maybe mentally comparing and anxious about when I’ll be asked to speak. I agree that it should have been three separate interviews, especially because questions like “were you in group chats?” were a no for everyone but Johnny.

The fact that I just skipped to a random part where Ethan says “I can’t see Becky, I dont know if that’s a thing that you do?” (talking to someone off camera) and the response is “I have it set to auto switch so once someone starts talking…” who was on the screen right before that? Johnny. Who’s on most of the time while scrubbing through this video? Johnny. He is the one talking most of this video! Swoop’s and Adam’s videos are eye opening, although I never saw this segment live or later on, I already had a bad feeling about Johnny and it’s clear just by looking through this that he received most of the attention on this segment, and now we know why.

So it's crazy to know how you can genuinely not know anything about these things, think you like someone, and then discover SO much damning content, posts, shows, behavior, etc.. If you don't have the time to consume everything someone is doing you can wholly believe someone is a great person.....and then discover they've even been shamelessly public with their garbage, let alone what they were doing behind the scenes. It's been heartbreaking to see so many people who sincerely believed she was so kind, so loving, so accepting, so helpful be the literal devil. I don’t know why this interview in particular hit me like a ton of bricks. Maybe that stupid song/ear worm temporarily distracted my nervous system from how absolutely disturbing this all is. Maybe my outrage has shifted to disgust and sadness. Not having clips and examples from Colleen on stage is helping maintain the setting that is key for this narrative. I am so sorry to the victims. Every child deserves better than this sickness.

@@peachhazel7865agreed…. A little backstory about me (it pertains to my comment about Colleen)… we went through literal hell… actual hell to have our babies… Our first son was born 100% healthy… A year and a half later, we had a full term baby girl born sleeping… A year and a half after that, we had another baby girl born with something called group B Streptococcus (which we found out later, is likely why our first girl was born sleeping, as I’m a carrier )… our 2nd baby girl was in the NICU critically ill for 3 weeks… 4 years after that we had a baby boy, again group B positive and in the NICU for 2 weeks fighting for his life.. Our last baby was 100% healthy as I had very high powered antibiotics before, during and after labor…. As did our baby boy… we were watched very closely, I had a wonderful OBGYN ❤️💕🙏🏼 My point in telling you all this is I’ll never forget Colleen’s water breaking with her twins, at 32-1/2 weeks, which is a life or death medical emergency… made Worse by her twins both being breech… So what does Colleen do???? Vlog it and straighten her hair of Course, laughing the whole time … risking the lives of her babies… So of course the Dr called her and was like “this is a medical emergency, where are you, why are you not here yet??”….😲😳😐… so of course she continues vlogging on the way to the hospital … So she gets to the hospital…. And she ends up having an emergency C section immediately, because one of her babies umbilical cords had washed down when her water broke…again, cord prolapse is a very, very serious medical emergency as the pressure on the cord, cuts off blood flow to The baby… She’s very, very lucky that both babies lived… As someone whom went through not only losing a baby…. But seeing 2 of my other babies struggle on life support…. It made me so angry… That’s when I knew …. Colleen Ballinger is a selfish, selfish, gross person… Obviously she couldn’t help that her waters broke pre term, obviously…. It’s how she handled it after the fact, that made her selfish.. I think that’s her true character…my older daughter and I quit watching her after that (my daughter is an adult btw, we used to think Miranda was funny, so we’d watch together when she came to visit)… I hope Colleen is deplatformed!! I think she knows it’s over. That’s why she put a patent on her song, it’s her last paycheck 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️💯

I feel so bad for Oliver and his family. They so clearly love him and want to see him feel accepted by the people around him; to see him feel happiness. Then two creeps come into his life and work to manipulate him by finally giving him the acceptance he so desperately longed for and, frankly, deserved. They knew that their fame and age gave them incredible power over a vulnerable and underage person like Oliver at that time. It is like Colleen, and whoever else was apart of this, thought “hmm this kid has been severely bullied, that is good for us because now we know it works on him and we can do it to him too”. You can tell that the intense first experience of feeling truly included meant a lot to Oliver and would probably have made him the happiest he had even been. I can imagine it meant the world to his parents too because their son, who they love so deeply, struggled for probably his whole life but now got to experience true happiness. They probably were nothing but thankful to these creeps. Which is scary because I feel like the mixture of Oliver’s struggles, his parents’ absolutely pure and encompassing love for him, and two evil but powerful people could have lead to an even scarier situation. I hope his family never feel any guilt for allowing this friendship happen, they were only ever doing what they thought was best for their son and that’s what loving parents do. I know they will still find some way to blame themselves but that is just what comes with parenting. Seriously though, they having nothing to feel bad for and are some amazing human beings and parents. He is truly blessed to have such a beautiful family. Shout out to Oliver! I am sorry you went through this shit, you never deserved to have this happen to you. I hope you’re ok, getting help if you feel you need to, and are thriving everyday!❤

I swear to god I watch and listened intently and thought they completely skipped over them, because they were just being goofy and silly and likely deflecting from pain with humour, damn, my parents beat me for not being a loyal member of my church and leaving, then again when I came out, now were cool, they're religious and they do love me, but In glad my parents threw my laptop and devices out the second story window so I stayed away from social media celebrities and KZbin influencers, violence has been a big part of life and will stop with me, but I will spank my young and insist they call me sir when my husband gives birth later this year and they are of age

I know unpaid internships are normal in the US, but in Europe it's only legal if it's part of your education, like if you are a nursing student and as part of your studies are placed in a hospital for a limited time to get training. I'm quite sure Adam McIntyre working for free for Ballinger was illegal. Unpaid community work is common here, but you are not required to do it. Example, I live in an apartmentbuilding owned by it's residents. 1 day a year we do free labor in or around the building, like driving ppls old furniture to the recycling station, cutting down small trees, only about 1/3 of the residents participate, we have a good time, and always order pizza later. This kind of community work called DUGNAD is normal for all kinds of communities, like sports teams, residential areas, schools, but no one is required to participate

Young people being obsessed with a celebrity isn't a new concept. The difference here is that the celebrity in question trampled every reasonable boundary in order to abuse their fans.

I don't think it's a particularly new concept. Since there have been celebrities there have been people crazy about them. And when people are going through rough times and don't have a lot of people they can trust in their regular life it can make you take a common interest and take it to alll kinds of new levels.
