my dad (the most gentle, nonviolent, non aggressive man i’ve ever met) was a karate instructor for many years. so many of his students would try to friend him on facebook. he told me he doesn’t accept any because he doesn’t want to be creepy. i didn’t fully understand it at the time but as i’ve gotten older i’ve thought about the fact that adults have a responsibility to not put themselves in a situation that would make someone uncomfortable. it’s obvious some men are able to naturally intuit that it’s inappropriate to create a relationship with a child.

Exactly! My Dad was a Youth Pastor for many years. He never gave out anything but his email through the churches domain, and his work phone or pager( yes, I am that old). As a Pastor you have a need to be able communicate with your congregation at a moments notice, but you also need to have a record of accountability.

I originally didn't really like Swoop after her Mykie(Glam & Gore) video. There were 2 or so very valid complaints(i.e. racism) but covered in every little nit picky bit she could think of to try to make Mykie seem worse when those valid issues spoke for themselves. Swoop came off as a jealous lover att w/some of the unnecessary comments she made. Like if someone was a bad friend you don't tell everyone about their relationship issues to try to make them look bad, you stick to why they were a bad friend and that should be enough. If it's not, you don't have a good enough story to back why the person was awful. I'm glad I gave her another chance because when she can remain objective and unbiased she slams these docs right out of the park.

Sometimes if someone comes to me with something really emotionally raw, I don’t know how to comfort them and my brain starts reciting a time when I felt similar emotions to let them know they’re not alone, I might not have advice but it’s never to be the “winner” when I share something after someone else did, it’s because I have 0 ability to comfort others due to social anxiety but I also recognize how it comes off- I’m able to almost process others stories through empathy and empathy alone as if sympathy is lost on me but empathy runs through me like oxygen 😞 definitely something I am insecure about and I try not to but my brain just works that way🤷🏻‍♀️

It is all based off of swoops work (which they themselves acknowledge almost every 5 minutes), but the comment was about the presentation and the way it was constructed. That's not Swoops work, that's Olivias work in reframing and summarising Swoops work. So why do you feel the need to diminish a compliment to Olivia for impressive work she did, and are trying to force it towards Swoop instead? Honestly it’s starting to look as tho they are setting adults up (who already exhibit problematic behaviors) at this point. They have all the screen shots kinda like Monica Lewinsky held on to the dress.

@@seame3795nah responsibility lies with adults, the end. Kids can cross the street without looking because they want something on the other side; that doesn't mean they were tempting the drivers to hit them, and the kids noting the license plate doesn't suggest anything but that they feel victimized and worry that accountability won't be taken or they won't be believed. If you can be tricked by a child into doing illegal things with them, you just always wanted to do illegal things with kids and found the right victims, the ones that provide you the mental gymnastics to justify it to yourself. Like what, these kids were in the group chats for so many years as, what, a long con? Did the 9 year old trick her into putting candy in her pants for him to fish out lmfao dastardly

@@keithheinz2120 NOPE .. this attitude gives people a free pass to fuck with adults and ruin careers. Both are responsible, as well as the kid's parents. Of course the adult should know better but you cannot deny that people do these things for attention too. I agree with seame as much as grooming has been covered, why keep reaching out to adults in the first place? These younger people should be (gently) held accountable for these behaviors and stop reaching out to older people in an intimate manner, then the problem is solved all around.

YES ANOTHER PERSON WHO THINKS SO AS WELL! I've said this in multiple videos on how it was weird on how Johnny would paint his friendship with Josh like a relationship and even in the H3 podcast interview he said it was like a weird breakup when Josh cut off contact. Like I get that friendships that end is heartbreaking and like a breakup but in the context of everything...it's weird. Also he kept calling the friendship a "relationship" like that's so weird. Also the way he stumbled over his words when he mentioned that it might look like he had a crush but he doesn't in the interview with Swoop. He would then continue berating Josh that he was pushing 30 and his personality was crap basically. Another thing that made me think he had a huge crush on Josh is that he was set on making it big with Josh and not Colleen. When he had dinner with Josh and his parents he said that Colleen is much bigger, makes better money, and Josh just sells cars on the side. Like why not bother Colleen, one of the biggest youtube stars at the time, to help you make it big and focus on Josh? Josh did say that he would help him and be a mentor to him but Johnny should've gone to Colleen. I honestly think he made that up and reversed the roles that Josh was the one being creepy and pushy and not Johnny himself. The other thing is that he got upset when Josh didn't reply especially when Josh was on the verge of offing himself after the divorce which is disgusting. And maybe I could be wrong but Johnny may have confessed to Josh but doesn't wanna say it. Weird how Johnny mentions "crush" when no one brought that up 💀

Guilty people can sometimes be the loudest when these situations come out. He immediately wanted to defend himself and accuse anyone he could. He wasn’t strategic enough to keep those stories and accusations aligned and this 6 hour interview debunked so much of the truth and I’m really glad Swoop took the time, patience, and energy to do this. I’m sure it was hard to remain civil while hearing some of the disgusting things he was saying, but it really helped everyone get a bigger picture of who he really is at the end of the day. I wanted to comment on the question 'is any relation ship with children when you're an adult ok,' as I've worked with people of all ages through volunteering at youth groups, organizing youth events, and helping with youth classes for various extra curricular actives, along with having much younger siblings and would help babysit them and their friends. There's a big difference between having a mentor relationship with underage people and being their "friend." You never want to have access to them outside of these specific actives, unless it's extenuating circumstances. You also never want them to idolize you as a fan, it's a very different dynamic. As an adult in these situations, it's your job to make sure the kids feel comfortable coming to you, but also feel secure because you "are" an adult and not their friend. You can be friendly but not friends. No social media contact, no chatting on the daily outside of any actives. No one-on-one unless it's for a specific reason. It's your job to help them navigate the world, not to become their world. You provide them with tools if they want, but not force it on them. You also want them to outgrow that mentor relationship, you want them to leave the class/group/events and to move on. If they're fans or friends, it would be harder for them to outgrow that situation, as they'll see you in a specific light and it will hold them back (not hard and fast rule of course, just the most case scenario).

Idk if you’ve watched the other part, about Josh. It does appear that Josh was trying to be a mentor to Johnny but lacked the training and knowledge to navigate that role properly, including and especially how to detach when the minor appears to be unwell. Josh apologized for this specifically 4 times. It became clear over time that Johnny’s attachment to Josh was unhealthy, Josh attempted to maintain a healthy distance without shutting Johnny out completely. The other section pretty clearly shows that Josh thought he could serve as a role model and mentor at a distance, with Johnny’s parents’ knowledge and consent, and that Josh didn’t know what to do when Johnny’s behavior devolved into borderline stalking. Josh acknowledged that it was wrong to give Johnny his phone number, and that it was wrong to hold himself out as a mentor when he lacked the skill/knowledge/capacity to fill that role appropriately and adequately

Brain developes till 25 and there was a power dynamic which doesnt make anything right but it definitely caused some of bad behaviour (and also boys are raised to be less sensitive and to objectify women - thats what i think about sending these nudes). I think where he really failed is now that his completely an adult, he has really bad takes and doesnt admits to his wrongdoings and it shows what kind of a person he is. His young self was shitty but there could be some maturing to do there but his 30 something adult self sounds narcissistic. After watching Swoops video, I still wonder whether or not Colleen had a hand in this. From the way Johnny barely talked about her in a negative light, to the timing of everything. Colleen just got exposed for her behavior, but it suddenly became muddied up with the apology video, and now this??? Johnny acts like he's above everyone, but it's clear that he's deeply insecure and is desperate for the approval of others. Colleen has a history of going after Josh and is clearly manipulative, and I wouldn't be surprised if she encouraged Johnny's crush, or manipulated him into doing this now. She has a history of deflecting from responsibility, and the fact that Johnny had specifically chosen details from Colleen's other victims and heavily emphasized that he had chosen to speak up to help amplify everyone else's story is suspicious as hell. He could have easily made some stuff up but didn't. He's clearly a groomer, and the fact that he worked with Colleen and her family for years should raise even more red flags. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think he did this just for the audience's attention. Colleen has always been controlling, her first attempt at controlling the narrative through her apology video didn't work. The next logical step would be to muddy the waters in an attempt to silence everyone else. If Johnny lies about his experiences using details from other people's accounts, who would believe them? If he wanted attention, he could have made something up. Doing that would allow him the opportunity to go into detail and come up with something believable. If his goal was just attention, why didn't he take the time to flesh out a more believable story? The only details he gave were surface level, and it was bound to fall apart. Based on the efforts he took to do this in the first place, I have a hard time believing that he didn't know things would go down like this. In between his intimidation tactics and muddying up the story overall, the only person who benefits from this at the end of the day isn't Johnny, but Colleen herself. Johnny seems to care more about getting attention than giving off a good image, and I don't see a reason that he would intentionally put himself in this situation and throw his other "friends" under the bus unless he got something from it. He already had his own fans and didn't have any controversy until now. Why would he risk that? He was clearly hurt by Josh's actions and it wouldn't be hard for Colleen to manipulate him into doing this.

@Nova_3579
@Nova_3579 Жыл бұрын
@@tonipalmieri4100 Yeah, exactly. The relationship between her and Josh were toxic and she clearly held animosity towards him. Based on her behavior, it wouldn't surprise me if she still held on to that hate until now and chose to "encourage" Johnny to get the heat off of her. There's no way for her to defend herself so having a bad actor sneak in to delegitimize those speaking up against her while also taking the heat off of herself in the form of a red herring would be the next logical step. I also noticed this was around the time that people's focus was extending towards the rest of her family, as they had shown instances of inappropriate behavior as well. Having someone suddenly pop up with accusations about her ex husband is the perfect distraction. In the video they talked about how Johnny was intimidating some of the people Colleen hurt, and I can't help but feel like he had an ulterior motive behind it. Even if he wanted to become the face of the story, why stomp on everyone else to get it? There is a chance that I'm wrong and he's just narcissistic, but his end goal was unsustainable, and he had to have known that. We know that Colleen's inner circle is full of gr*omers, we know that Johnny is (allegedy) the same way, and we know that he was in contact with her and the family for several years. The fact that he was the one to blow the whistle knowing his background leads me to believe that there is likely more to the story. It's too much of a coincidence to be dismissed in my opinion.

You’d be surprised how a narcissist’s brain works. It’s all about him. Everyone else is wrong. He’s a clout chaser. I honestly don’t think Colleen is smart enough to make him do what he did. If anything Johnny might say Colleen made him do it which would be another lie.

@@Misunao23 You could be right, people don't always act logically. I do think he's a narcissist overall, but the specific ways that he went about things seemed odd to me if his goal was to only get attention. It would have been just as easy to focus on Colleen, but he only used her as a crutch in his story. Seeing as he worked with her, he could have easily had stories on her as she did little to hide her depraved behavior. I think it's possible that he did it for his own purposes, but he could have also been encouraged to do it

I know that grooming doesn’t always have to centre around a sexual interest but the red flag for me with Johnny accusing Trent was that clearly in Oliver’s story, Trent was into little girls. Oliver was groomed “romantically” (hate that term as it suggests something positive, but I’m drawing blanks on other words rn) pre-transition when Trent believed Oliver was a little girl and was clearly put out by the idea of Oliver struggling with his gender identity. Trent didn’t want him to identify as male. Johnny is a strange individual, there’s a real culture of wanting to struggle and be a victim these days, it’s a way of garnering attention for a lot of young folk and it’s wild to me.

It's sad that any interaction between an adult and a minor is almost automatically suspect. I understand why, there are far too many creeps out there, but it's disappointing that kids arent getting healthy interactions with adults. Kids should have enough trustworthy adults in their lives that they can recognize when someone acting inappropriately I had several wonderful mentors as a minor and was never once put in danger or taken advantage of. I wish more kids got that.

When I was 15 years old, in the Kpop community a lot of older people would approach us for the events, choreographers for a song etc. I remember there was a huge gap between us the girls and the adults who where 24-30 at that time for some reason we all thought because of tv shows movies, etc, that it was cool to date an older guy. This guy was 24 at that time and I was turning 17, we dated 2 months, I remember we always said that it was obvious who was still a virgin the way they would dance meaning the minors, now that I’m 29 years old I see no way why would I date someone in their teens, is so sick, even being friends I see no logic, specially because they would pretend to be our mentors kinda more like friends, older brother type. A year ago I texted this guy staying, her it was really messed up how you groomed me, no I understand better everything and how gave me such a low esteem him comparing me to older woman. This guy freaked out, apologize and blocked me. He is now a dad, has a step daughter and he is a teacher dancer….

my take on adult-child friendships is this: if the adult feels the need at ANY POINT to be unwilling to share every single last aspect and exchange between themselves and the kid with the kid’s legal guardians or one of the kid’s trusted adults in their immediate inner circle, the relationship should not exist. period. you as an adult should not feel comfortable being the only adult who can witness and make judgement calls about how you’re interacting with that kid. if at ANY POINT something “needs” to be kept a secret, sexual or not sexual, from other adults in the child’s life or their guardians, the relationship is inappropriate. period.

An adult van be friends with a kid, but it can’t be anywhere on the same level of friendship as between two adults. Adults can depend and confide in each other, a child is under no sircumstances be put in a position where an adult depends and confides in them. An adult’s job is to be a safe person for a child to turn to, not the other way around.

Yes, I think that the most important thing that usually exists in relationships that include children, assuming that the adult is not messed up or abusive, is that the adult will still make sure that there are some boundaries (even without telling them) and things that the other party should not be exposed to, no matter what. I used to play online games that younger kids also played, and if I knew their age, I made sure to keep it appropriate, to the game, and try to set a good example when I can. I don't agree with saying any interaction is crime. It can be friendly but the adult gotta be honest and super aware with themselves and the limits and care about the kid being a kid.

Thank you for wrestling with the idea of appropriateness of relationships with minors. We need adults with integrity to provide mentorship and support and I dont want it presented in a way that every adult that is helping minors is a groomer. I think there are many differences with groomers that mentors. Groomers want it secret and private. DMs and online are often secret and lack transparency. I love what was said about with a celebrity there is a greater ability to manipulate as well there isnt a depth of relationship building . Also, common sense says that if you are having age inappropriate conversations and are sharing personal information with minors...it isnt an appropriate relationship. As a psychologist, I believe teens really do need mentors and support, but KZbin celebrities are not mentors. I think that is what Johnny was wanting from Josh and because Josh actually didnt meet the expectations Johnny had, he is now annihilating Josh.

It absolutely breaks my heart that some will walk away from this thinking “well, adults and minors are incapable of having appropriate relationships” Active role models are SO important! When I was a minor, I was ostracized by most of my peers, and my teachers were often my best friend in the room. If I had been THEIR best friend, THAT would’ve been inappropriate. It’s up to the adult to set boundaries firmly and to make it clear that they are not a peer. When the power imbalance is too great, or if it becomes muddied, that’s when it becomes dangerous. This is just my opinion, feel free to disagree, I know this is a very sensitive subject and many do not share my experiences.

there are definitely many situations where having a friendly relationship with a minor is fine for an adult, for instance i work as a server in a restaurant and a few of our hosts are 16-17 (im 21) but i have to maintain a good relationship with them for job security, because they influence who gets sat in my section, and sometimes what sections im given. in my opinion the line is taking that relationship to any level other than mandatory. any sort of contact over the internet feels wayyy too far for an adult/minor relationship, barring maybe role model type relationships, like with an older siblings friend for instance. i cannot imagine any situation other than stricly work related contact, such as asking for a picture of the schedule, being okay or acceptable. yet, i would consider a couple of them friends. fame also obviously plays a huge role. when i was younger i wouldve killed to meet some of my idols. now, if i saw them in person, i probably wouldnt even say anything. referencing 57:30

that was mostly toward the beginning, it stops as the info gets worse and worse. to me, it just came off as Ethan not wanting to quickly turn on an alleged abuse victim. theres a lot of firmly placed bias in this situation, bias against colleen/josh and bias towards the victims (including johnny). i dont see the initial defensiveness as anything more than ethan wanting to give as much benefit of the doubt as possible to johnny, as is natural.

Something that keeps coming to mind is that this level of many to many communication we have because of social media is so new to us as human beings. Hank Green talked about it once, we legitimately are not good at it. Hard to find the balance between holding accountability but also recognizing there probably wasn’t malicious intent?

I feel like Johnny was going after Joshua soo hard because Josh wasn't giving him all the attention he wanted from him and Johnny imo pretty much stalked Joshua. When things werent going the way he wanted with Joshua and he saw what was happening with Adam he wanted in on it and twisted things that had happened biig time. I dont know, the whole thing is weird and feels like he's trying to take some of the heat off Colleen as well. That being said, the statements he made about DV and those topics is just sickening, being a severe Dv survivor myself its upsetting to hear. Dude just needs to get off the internet and disappear.

bro, I remember our weirdest student, Mr. Foisy, he would friend everyone on Facebook, text students, but the worse is that he would call us out in class about our posts, just stalking our profiles to say something, ''one girl put a picture of her saying I love soccer nigga'' he just showed it in class, and lectured her on not saying the word because it could be offensive, just crazy situation all over

The Swoop doc is great and everything but let’s not put her on a pedestal and forget that she put a whole hit piece against Glam and Glore (Mykie) because at the end of the day Mykie called out Swoop for continuously using her for click bait during the beginning of her KZbin career trying to tag onto Mykie’s success and Swoop’s been bitter ever since. Rewatch that swoop glam and gore video and tell me differently.

Interesting that you should compare it to a teacher sliding into your dm’s. He waited for me to graduate at least but a former teacher of mine convinced me that he and his wife were over and began grooming me. It went as far as him proposing to me and ACTUALLY telling my mother that he wanted to mold me into the woman I had the potential to be. Major scumbag. To this day the people who know about it in this small town think I was in the wrong and am a home wrecker because I ended up finding out the truth and anonymously reaching out to her. Also, yeah, the Johnny Appleseed song you’re thinking of is actually “Johnny Freedom?” I don’t know, we had to hear it at school every Friday so that’s forever ingrained in my memory.

Okay besides the point but Olivia needs to start doing power points about random TikTok drama. What I’ve noticed is these videos get a lot of views, people like them because of the context and lengths. I watched this in day while I get breaks from school and work. Def something h3 should think about. Edit: I do think Olivia should take more detail notes and time stamp parts where she “thinks” someone said something. Just because this is a serious issue and it’s good to have good evidence. just saying🙃
