Somehow with this technology I see insurance companies saying, “Yeah! Your fifteen minute allotted time is now seven minutes, per patient.”

HIPAA is the bare minimum. United Healthcare just had a massive breach. Simply put: the more data there is, the more data will eventually be leaked.

I just laughed SO hard because this must be how my doctors feel when I do a follow up 😂 I have multiple serious medical conditions- several of which are part of my digestive system, and every time I see a doctor, there are like 20 problems all playing into each other to address 😂😂😂😂 I’m that horror story patient 😅🙏🏻💗

How does the AI company treat the data?For sale? Or not for sale but definitely used to train more algorithms? Point is ,patient already is at a information asymmetry disadvantage vs Pharma and Hospitals, so digitisation of data usually is one more thing that is out of their control,one more company to combat about privacy,price and efficiency.

It wouldn't be HIPAA compliant if they sold data on patients. This is just a transcription program. There are several such springing up. They are less "techbro AI" and more "useful AI".
@bijoyroy11
@bijoyroy11 2 ай бұрын
@@ConstantlyDamaged it's good to be optimistic that it has good intentions. However usually what seems to happen is a small start up tries to get acquired by a big company which won't be that ethical,or becomes a big unethical company itself,via PE funding. And then past customer/patient data will be mined for other personal insights. Imagine if your phone manufacturing company sold sensor collected data to insurance companies to tell them you have bad life style habits. It may not sell directly, but there's a grey market out there,which claims to help advertising industry target "consumers" with relevant ads,but other players also buy data to understand their customers and future customers. And there's data hacks that keep happening anyways. Imagine your conversation with the doctor, out in the open...

the concern is if biometric data is being clandestinely collected by the company; which is possible and there’s no way to prove they aren’t.

Heidi uses cloud based data processing, which is not in and of itself an issue. A lot of medical practices use web-based record management tools. However you are absolutely right to be sceptical about privacy around senstive personal data, especially when it comes to potential misuse of data

This looks amazing and could potentially be a HUGE time-saver for residents (both during and after clinic). But how should this software be used? Does it need to be applied at the institution level across all computers? Or can a resident use this individually?

I'm normally not super into AI stuff but this seems like a practical use for it, as long as it respects patient privacy and isn't monetized (other than selling the required software or whatever). And if it's accurate, of course!

There are plenty of ways to get premeds involved without requiring them to be scribes
@supercalafra
@supercalafra 2 ай бұрын
Doc, people say that, and yet that's not the reality on the ground. Corporatization of healthcare routinely prevents shadowing, volunteering and other *required* ECs without extensive vetting and competition. In essence medicine is and really always has been a cottage industry where rich people whose parents were doctors have all the opportunities, whereas working class students who can't afford both food and the required shadowing, volunteer, research etc hours get intentionally disenfranchised.
@Doc_Schmidt

@@supercalafra certainly not trying to say it’s easy but I think it’s also important to keep in mind how many doctors or practices can’t afford scribes and can hugely benefit from this type of assistance

I was a premed in the type of situation you're implying. I still had other roles aside from scribing, including rooming the patient, assisting with procedures, making calls about biopsy results, answering patient questions for the doctor, and calling about biopsy results and prescription refills. There's a lot more than scribing that can be done!

This is the sort of situation where ethical AI use can really shine, too: assisting someone in doing better at a job they are already qualified for, instead of as a replacement for skills or education. Hopefully this program is more focused than other language models, and doesn't invent symptoms or complaints and attribute them to people who may or may not exist. Looking at _you_, ChatGPT!
