Unfortunate for the softball questions. No questions about the one very serious failure... Failure of the thermal protection system on a critical control surface. They could have very easily lost control of the vehicle or had an inflight breakup of the vehicle. SpaceX has a very serious problem.

i think she's a former tv journalist, so she does have professional qualities that are often missing in this realm 😀 only thing is when elon said starship landed 6km off, i wanted to know how accurate the booster landing was -- and -- how accurate it needs to be for it to be grabbed. otoh he did say it's ready to happen so it's apparently accurate enough...

And it's not just about the particular interviewer... He knows that this is going to reach a decent audience of like-minded people which is really different compared to the mainstream media outlets. Compliments for the interview with Mr. Musk on the day of IFT4. He has been very straightforward about his aims and objectives. Greetings from the UK, Anthony

Because the MSM is out to crucify him. They know inside that this flight was a major success, and they also know that any interview about this flight with any SpaceX employee, representative, or Elon himself isnt gonna leave them very many "gotcha" soundbites that they can spin against him. Instead they're gonna try to use the flap burning wildly while the ship was coming back to try to undermine the program without acknowledging the actual successful soft landing it did shortly after. They're still salty that he bought out their main propaganda tool to the uninformed masses, and is encouraging *gasp* free speech.

This interview was pretty bad. Hardly anything about IFT4. The questions were largely disconnected from each other and most were very broad and shallow. Obviously he’s gonna answer some vague thing like “idk ten years from now.” And that’s exactly what he did.

@@ellieinspace I think the catch on IFT5 with so many version 1 Starships left will be good to do BEFORE they build the 2nd launch tower. A couple of nice tidbits in this interview! Starship came down 6km away from the planned location (not bad considering what happened to those flaps!), and TWICE he mentioned the 'precision' of the booster's landing - despite an engine out! - which is no doubt why he's game to try for a tower catch next test. Great stuff Ellie!
