I am certain people don't realize the greatness of this athlete. The guy won 4 medals in 4 different Olympic Games, 3 of which were gold. This is crazy.

Bronze medal due to a recent serious injury just before the event as he said in the video. Had not it been that injury he would most likely be a gold medalist 4 times.

@@myonlynick Maybe I dont know, the truth was though that without the injury, the gold medal would have been tough that year. Pyrros was not in his prime then. The fact that still got that medel, not being on his prime and injured, says a lot! The guy is not just the GOAT in weight lifting in Olympics, he is one of the GOATs in Olympics in general.

It’s hard to actually explain how much this athlete influenced a whole country 🇬🇷 For a short period of time, the Olympics for us Greeks were solely focused on one guy! I remember it like yesterday - the Barcelona Olympics in 92… he was not well known… he goes out there and attempts his lift, his coach yelling “under the bar” and Dimas standing up and right before he snatched the weight over his head he yells “FOR GREECE” and does it - first gold medal. Legend

I would like you to realize something. Pyrros mentioned the standing ovation that took more than 10 minutes. I've never seen a ceremony practically freezed for more than 10 mins before that day and ever again to be honest. Extra respect to the other athletes and the committee. You see a small stadium of standing ovations, but I can confirm that on that day 10 million Greeks were crying for joy. You can ask any Greek where he/she was on the day the national team won the 1987 European basketball championship, or where he/she was and what he/she was doing in detail when the national team won the European football championship in 2004. The day Pyrros stepped on the podium in 2004 was such a day too.

Great interview and I love Pirros dedication. I used to watch him as he was active in Albania, because I am an Albanian. I also watched him and Leonidha Shabani in the olympics. Great emotions. But still, with all the political problems that Albania had, he should be a little more thankful. Also he should mention the name of the coach that discovered him and the other champions that played for Greece after they left Albania. Anyway, in the end God is the perfect judge that takes no sides.

Indeed Pyrros is a legend here in Greece, and yeah his reputation outside the world of sports was eroded with the politics but that's how it is here pretty much. The sad reality is, people are generally displeased with anything politics-related in Greece, everyone always has something to say about it. Many magnificent athletes turned into politicians due to their social status, and most fumbled the bag simply because they are athletes, not politicians, therefore they lost lots of respect from huge groups of people, and their achievements were forgotten . .
