I have been enamored with Bireli and his amazing music since I met him in February of 1984 at Fat Tuesdays in NYC. I was a fan of Larry Coryell and went to see him. Bireli and his band opened for Larry and Vic Juris and then he joined Larry for duets at the end of the nights (I saw him 4 nights). I truly believe he is the greatest jazz guitarist. Such amazing freedom, spontaneity, musicality and positive energy in his playing. I listen to his music almost every day as I paint my paintings. Great interview Paul.

One of the world's great guitarists! Thanks for sharing. The Yamaha semi hollow body I keep seeing Bireli playing looks like an SA 2200. I just ordered one and was very pleased to discover it being played by such a great musician while doing research on it via KZbin. Another great guitarist who plays a Yamaha is, of course, Matteo Mancuso and his Revstar. Thanks for this very informative interview.

Biréli Lagrène is actually such a nice and pleasant guy. Unfortunately, Paul Rigg doesn't manage to create a relaxed atmosphere. Instead, the interview seems rather tense and stiff. A pity. By the way, Biréli can sing quite well.
