When I first saw the skimmer for sale I was so happy that it was thought of. I really didn't want a makeshift type unit especially out here where the water evaporates quickly in the desert. I purchased this unit and it has been nothing but problems. So I took a 7/64 drill bit and after aligning it properly I drilled a hole from the top center through the clamp into the support beam through the liner. Than I drove a #10 wood screw down into the pilot hole with my clutch set to 4 and VIOLA!!

i just got a 2 pound rubber weight at they local sporting good shop and used velcro to wrap it half way on the hose and that fixed the floating problem. Cost me $2-3.

Didnt work at first and my pump acted like it wasnt strong enough, but after unscrewing the lid on my pump filter and getting all the air out of the skimmer it works like a charm. So far so good.

@Bubkus On top of the pump/filter theres a hand knob to unscrew until you hear water rushing and pitch changes or water starts leaking from it;

You are correct, this one does a much better job and allows for use of the pump suction. What size pump do you have? This larger skimmer requires a 1500 gal/hr pump or stronger.

Try off-setting the location on the rim of the pool where you are mounting the skimmer and the location of the wall inlet you have the skimmer hose connected to. This seems to fix it on our end.

That is definitely a problem. We have not seen that, but maybe clamping the hose to the pool wall adapter and bottom of the skimmer would solve it. Our test pools do a good job of staying down once they begin to obtain water inside the unit.

With the Intex skimmer and the Intex Krystal Clear Sand Filter Pump, I can't make the skimmer work. Without the skimmer hose hooked up to the outtake hole, the pump and filter work just fine. But as soon as I put the blue piece of the skimmer on the outtake hole (the white "cage" is not there), the pump stops working efficiently. Could the holes/filter in the bottom of the skimmer and the holes/filter in the blue piece be too much for the pump to pull in the water and put through the sand filter to send to the output hose? Thanks for any help!

No mention of the white reduced flow adapter, pc 13, in the list of materials. My kit came with 1 page supplemental instructions that makes it look like, on pools with dual outlets, the second outlet, that doesn't have the skimmer attached, has to have the flow reducer installed to make sure the skimmer has enough flow. Can this be confirmed?

I have the 1500 gph pump and with the skimmer hooked up it's not getting enough water in it but without it it works fine. Any suggestions?

I've been searching high and low for how to get the white tabs in on the hand held pool skimmer, to take it off. I bought your leaf rake and can't get the regular one off no matter HOW I hold my jaw.

You keep saying outlet connector, its an intake connector to the pump. The outlet end spew water out. Does that mesh inlet connector really unscrew on the easyset pools?

Hook it up to the intake. The are wrong when they say to hook it up to the discharge side

#1, the clamp will rotate on an Ultra Frame pool for a fact and cause the skimmer to suck air. This happens no matter how tightly you tighten the clamp, and Intex IS aware of the problem they just choose to ignore it! #2 even with ballast added to basket the clamp can still come loose on an Ultra Frame pool... been there, done that! Even without any motion of the water's surface, you'll go out to check the pool and eventually over a few days time discover the skimmer has rotated and is sucking air! I've had my Ultra Frame pool with an Intex skimmer on it for almost 3 years now, I have some idea what I'm talking about! The only solution I found was to drill 2 small holes thru the plastic clamp and into the pool frame rail and then drive 2 SS metal screws thru the clamp into the frame of the pool... it's never floated up again going on 2 years since, no ballast needed, the clamp cannot move now!

If you have to pool it out when swimming in the pool, how do you hook the skimmer up so the filter pump runs without the pump suckin in air and wighout detaching skimmer hose?

You just unhook the hose inside and put your inlet screen back on. Nothing changes

tony pike A friend of mine has the same problem, her 16 foot Ultra Frame Intex pool has 3 holes (2 suction and 1 return)... I can't find any info on how to add a surface skimmer to her pool and she desperately needs one now as small flying ants keep landing and dying on the surface of the pool and are bloody hard to manually skim off it! I'm guessing 1 of the suction holes must be plugged off, otherwise the surface skimmer will not get enough suction to pull the floating cover under the waters surface... how to do this, IDK!

I took the Intex skimmer off my Ultra Fame Pool (with only 1 suction port) and tested it on my friend's 16 foot Ultra Frame Pool with 2 suction ports. It didn't work worth a flip, even with an upgraded 2500 gph pool pump on her pool it would not pull the skimmer ring down enough for water to flow over and into it. I had to block the other suction port in order to get the skimmer to work correctly on the other suction port. I don't see any way around this design problem, with 2 suction ports water is going to flow thru the port with least resistance and that will be the port without the surface skimmer attached! I don't think Intex tests this stuff very well or very much before putting it on the market. Myself, I'm about to replace my Intex pool with a larger non-Intex steel-walled pool and a side-mounted skimmer system anyways. Not sure what to suggest for my friend's Intex pool though... I am disappointed the way the Intex surface skimmer performs I cannot recommend this thing.

Block one of the inlets with the rubber hat that came with your pool. This will make the draw stronger.

Does this work with the ultra frame pool? I keep reading reviews that it pops up and sucks air and doesn't fit the pool and runs the pump dry?

jackieL1228 The problem is that the skimmer is designed for a pool with round support poles, the ultra (like mine) is more oval and does not grip correctly and will float, I have tried moving the skimmer and used a c clamp and still floats. I just calles Intex and explained the problem, they told me they only manufacture the one and have NEVER heard a complaint, that I am doing something wrong. I can say that when the skimmer is not floating it works great!

Keith Fousek Yes, screw the clamp to the frame rail with 2 small SS metal screws... it'll never come loose on it's own again!

Black pieces from my neighbors tree is always falling in our pool. It goes through the skimmer basket into the huge whole in the bottom, getting caught in the hose and wall adapter. Super frustrating 😡

Skimmer socks are great for getting bits before they go into the pipes or pump.

Yes, it does. Remove the strainer cover from the inside of the pool...no need to stop water flow. Remove the small silver screw on the base of the skimmer. This will allow you to separate the threaded ring from the strainer ( I had to use a the end of a flat head screwdriver to pry it loose, then it will unscrew). Put the threaded ring back on the outlet. You can screw the attachment that came with the skimmer to the outlet.

What this video fails to show you is how the bigger skimmer basket will move out of position and cause air lock in your pump. Even with the hook thing completely tightened down, the basket will move and sit all crooked on the metal frame of the pool.

That my be true, but as soon as you get in the pool and start moving around, it will move. It helped a little when I added a brick into the basket to weight the thing down some.

Vcafr0 That is absurd! I've had my Intex pool for 5 years with the original skimmer for 4 years, and this new larger one for 1+ years. I've never taken it out and never had problems. As long as I keep the brick in the basket it work's perfectly fine with people in the pool.

I am with you . It totally sucks. It floats over the top and ends up in the pool. I finally put a big rubber band to hold it in place. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. It picks up nothing.

I have had no problems with mine at all ..... If it's floating raise the skimmer just about 1-4 inches under the water and it will float fine ... Also if you have two suctions holes and you have a paper filter pump

You have to cover one of the suction ports with the black rubber plug that came with your pool. Or install the white rubber plug that came with your skimmer it should have a tiny whole to reduce water flow from one end and create more suction for the skimmer

On a routine day, I have to stop by pump twice to pull leaves out of various strainers along the way because the skimmer doesn't pull them into the basket. The skimmer has these flaps on the bottom, which draws debris in the bottom, completely bypassing the basket. It's like someone took a skimmer that would probably be fine and asked how to make it worse. I'd say I pull less debris out of the basket than out of anywhere else in the system. I'll be looking for a different skimmer. This one sucks.

Its really a pointless skimmer. Smaller pieces slip through and clog the hole to the hose. Also anything that is light just stays at the top of the water line along the inside of the blue part so when you pull the basket out to clean it, anything that was up inside the blue part just gets falls back into the pool.

@@Hejirah we had to do a couple things. If you have 2 inlets you need to block the other one not hooked up to the skimmer in order to get proper suction. We also bought some skimmer socks which has helped tremendously with clogs and catching the smaller particles.

@@heather8150 what kind of pool (brand) you have? we have an intex 24k litre one. may I ask what kind (brand/model) of skimmer socks have you used? not sure what do you mean by 2 inlets? yes we have 1 that sucks in water, the other sucks it out...
