Well, they did a very good job on this one. Pretty much perfect out of the box, good setup and fret work, finish, tuners,all first rate. As good as the Gibson? I can't say, but it ticks all the boxes for a Special. You should do a review and maybe they'll send you one. I think you'd be impressed.

This is one of those weird guitars that sounds stupendous! Excellent tone! Gibson quite literally glued a mahogany neck to a solid piece of mahogany, shaped into a Les Paul body. And yet, despite being lighter than a standard, and lacking a maple cap and binding on the body, it arguably has the best tonal palate of any guitar Gibson makes, including anything that comes out of the Custom Shop. The only Gibson it can’t beat in terms of tone is the Firebird, despite being uglier than the former. The only thing I dislike about your guitar is that its not right handed, but thats an easy fix.
@donsantiago12 жыл бұрын
The maple top takes them to a whole new level, with P90 or minibuckers. The bridge pickup enters ice pick shrilling twang, kind of out of this world.I like it but i find the all mahogany body more balanced and sweeter.

I have two LP Specials from 1999 (P-90) and 2000 (humbucker). These are the model with no neck binding, tunamatic bridge, belly cut, and slim-taper neck. I love them both, but want a LP Special double cut from the same era, for better access to the upper frets. The Gibson LP Specials with wraparound bridge and neck binding seem to cost over twice as much - even three times as much for custom shop versions. If you like big necks, then these models aren't for you, but for me, someone with medium sized hands, I love it. The 2000 was only ~$500 whon I bought it used 15 years ago, while the 1999 was a bit more, but still under $1,000-. Why the vintage type costs so much more, I don't understand, but they likely used better (lighter) mahogany for yours. Mine are about 8 pounds, a bit more than my stratocasters, but no neck dive. I was thinking of getting a SG, but a double cut LP Special is more my type.

I have the Epiphone LP Special I P90, on sale it was $ 129. Like the Gibson LP Special P90, ready to go off the rack/out of the box. I wanted a Strat, but for a 1st guitar, the LP is a home run for an instrument. I eventually found my 1st Strat as well. The P90's are as close to humbucklers with single coil pickups as you'll get. The Epiphone P90's have a 8K neck & 9K bridge resistance specs. Less head stock break angle than the Gibson, similar to the specs for the PRS brand for break angles.
@jimcamp24234 жыл бұрын
I do agree, this is the one of , if not the best tone I've heard in one of your videos, it's a matter of being between weaker resistance single coil pickups and quite often way overpowering humbucklers. Whether it was in the moment or not. Part of that might be dialed in amp settings to compensate for some other aspect or the pickup ? The P90's are versatile, Metal is probably where the P90's might be challenged to match & keep of with the humbucklers.

Ok I was wondering that, excuse my lack of guitar intellect, but p90,s r p 90,s? I think if epiphones r good enough for Gary Clark, because for me I'm only buying it for the p90s mainly

Tried one in the local guit shop in the last week. Bit of chunk to the Epi neck. Fit and finish is really good. The overal build was very good. Decent travel on the pots, not just on and off. Needed a decent full setup out of the box. Gibson was there as well. Better guit, but didn't annihilate the Epi by any means. Epi had a bit more jangle, Gibson had a bit more mid grunt.

I have my pre order in for the Epi they should be ready to ship out by late March. Keeping my fingers crossed I get a good one from what I have seen some of the epiphones need fret leveling since I can do the work myself I didn't let that scare me off.

It looks great, and the tone is excellent, but the best tone I’ve heard from you on this channel is from your Flying V. That’s the opinion of me and my Bose headphones, and we’re sticking to it.

It's still going strong. It's outlived all of my Gibson LP's.

Great guitars, the Specials. I have a 2009 'open pore' dark cherry red version which has the tailpiece and tune-o-matic - couldn't be happier.

I’m considering getting an epiphone person but I’ve read some negative posts regarding the wraparound bridge. There’s an earlier Epiphone version on Reverb with a stoptail piece and tune-o-matic bridge. What do you recommend?
@mortonwilson7952 ай бұрын
@@steveyankees1 It's quite possible I am in a minority of 1 when it comes to this debate - the wraparound thing never stopped Keith Richards and a host of other players going for Juniors & Specials but before I went pro I was a guitar salesman in one of NZ's best music stores and part of the job was setting up the Fenders, Gibsons, Ricks etc. that came thru and, personally, I just find the tune-o-matic bridge a necessity . . . also not a fan of the 3 bridge piece rig on most Telecasters TBH. That said, most acoustic guitars come with a fixed bridge and generally they seem fine so . . . I gues just try it if you can and see if the harmonics and intonation at 12th fret are the same note! 😅👍

Great tone Shane. I'm a big fan of P90s. They really are incredibly versatile and cover pretty well all the bases. I bought an Epiphone Les Paul '56 Gold Top about five years ago and love it to bits. I play mostly Blues but it's great for Jazz and Rock too. Keep up the good work 😉

I sure love the sound of those P90 pickups. I just might get a guitar with those but will take my time to find the right one for me when the situation allows trying them out.
