17:22 basically, Tango and Jimmy died very early into the episode and in order not to spoil with the episode length, Tango extended the episode with just a black screen. At the end, he decided to write out the after credits monologue from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off where Ferris comes across the audience still watching and asks the audience why they are still watching and to go home and do other stuff. Lots of people didn’t get the reference and reinterpreted the words to be from Tango to Jimmy as spirits before they left the server, with sort of a tone of cold anger since I think Tango left pretty soon after his death and so Jimmy didn’t get to say sorry and stuff.

I was confused when I thought Tango was trying to implement some neat story telling, I didn’t feel like he’d do it like that and it seemed awkward with the video length, but it being a reference is awesome! What I heard for Winner's Theory is actually pretty different. It's that the Watchers base the rule set for a season is on the winner of the season before. Everyone came from collaborative SMPs -> 3L was "just a simple hardcore series" Grian killed people as a green life, and was betrayed by a red Scar at the end -> Boogeymen and the only time reds are explicitly not allowed to team with yellow/green names Scott always paired with one person and refused to kill his partners -> soul mates Pearl went feral completely independent of her life count -> Individual lives don't matter as much, yellows can kill greens freely, and pvp is highly incentivised

If I recall correctly, the “Joel is the most evil Last Lifer” came from a video by Jay A. Donut that calculated how “mean” each player was based on how many kills they got, with the killing of a person on red being worth 2 points while the rest were worth 1 point. Joel won. Donut later made a revised version of the scoring system which accounted for some nonviolent instances of meanness (betrayals, pranks, etc.) and Joel won again.

I absolutely agree with you. Most, if not all of what happened in the Life Series could have only occured out of pure, genuine, improvised storytelling and fun. Scripting something this natural would take a ton of skill, and I definitely do believe that something like 3rd Life's story was simply an accidental domino effect that spiralled into an interesting plot.

Winner's theory is actually a theory on how the playstyle of the winner of a series affects the rules of the next series. Last Life got the no red-green/yellow teamup rule after Grian teamed up with Scar. Grian used this to kill people as a green life, and the boogeyman was a non-red lifer set to kill others. Till-date most stable team up in the life series was Scott and Pearl on Last life. They would do anything, even lose lives to save the other. Double life got the soulbound system. Pearl's 5-AM nature of killing people, without caring how much danger she was in(she incited a red joel and etho and died while laughing) connected to limited life, where individial lives didnt matter as much, also for the first time a non-red non-boogey lifer got rights to kill (Yellow kills green). An interesting theory.

He made an excuse that his new allegiance was to mumbo, but if you looked closely at his hair, it had 4 letters on it B(Bdubs) E(Etho) S(himself) and T(Tango), suggesting that he was still loyal to his team. He could have gotten a life, but because of not accepting it, he basically gave it to Etho. Sound familiar?

32:16 ohh this is actually the biggest question I've had since watching the series!! Basically if you don't remember, in Last Life, Martyn received a "Love Crystal" from Scar somewhere around halfway through the season. He said multiple times throughout the season that he had plans for it, and that he was going to use it somehow. I remember it was really hyped up lol. But then he died (I think in the 2nd to last session?) and lost most of his stuff in some cacti, including the love crystal. And then it just wasn't brought up after that, lol, and everyone pretty much forgot about it (including Martyn lmao) But my question is always like... What was the plan for the love crystal? What would have happened if the crystal wasn't destroyed? I was really sad that the crystal wasn't ever able to be played, because I think it definitely would have led to some interesting/funny moments, lol!

About the Tango's final moments thing: That wasn't actually Watchers lore or anything. That was.just a cheeky reference to Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The text actually reads "You're still here? Go home. It's over. Go," which is just like the end credits scene of the aforementioned movie, in which Ferris comes out of a room, looks at the audience, and informs them that the movie is over and that they can go home. The text matches Ferris' dialogue in this scene!

I can’t believe flower husbands didn’t make the list. We still get Pufferish of Peace Edit: Scars crystals working is mostly in reference to Mumbo in Last Life. Scar was carrying a luck crystals and survived a lot of of traps and situations, but he died very quickly after giving it to Mumbo. Mumbo had good luck with the crystal as well. There were a few other instances of this as well.

Grian also reminded in his last episode of double life that everything wasn't scripted and even the death on the stupidest things counts (him getting killed trying to get the warden out to the surface). But they might've tried to make scenarios and drama in the series, like Grian stealing BigB from Ren, Scar knows about the cheating, and the divorce couples, it doesn't mean that every part is scripted, it's just that everyone responds to a drama as they think they should have responded. They might've liked it scripted tho, but then, it would be less fun.

(Thanks for the explanations of these) I don't think "Etho never changes his skin" should be that far down in the iceberg as I feel that's common knowledge. Maybe just "ladders" with no context (then one could assume it's referring to Grian and Joel for their inabilities to climb ladders, but the real fans know the context)... At least "Bad Maths" wasn't at the top... the creator of this iceberg is far more savage to Etho with the "washed out" (though, all of his fanbase is at this point lol) Watcher lore should be at the top, given those who search for that lore, find it quickly. Yes, from a general audience standpoint (like, say, the small kids and the parents of those small kids, both who don't interact with the fanatics), nobody's aware of the watcher lore. But if you step into the animations/fanfiction realm, in five seconds you see it everywhere. Watcher lore doesn't JUST encompass "Martyn lore" (or rather "Martin lore") but the fandom's interpretation of the watchers, likely starting with ATUS (a fanfiction) as one of the big spawning points for said lore.

I think "time inconsistencies" might refer to the fact that times are not all within 30 mins of each other presumably because people aren't logging off at the exact same time. (i.e. Person A is at 4:24, and Person B is at 6:57 instead of 6:54)

i think the reason yellow snow is so low on the iceberg is the lore. grian got the horse very early on and almost immediately it got stolen by scar. a few episodes later the southlands stole it and dangled it over lava to use it as ransom. scar didnt care because he stole it in the first place, grian realized & dropped his own horse into the lava

You’re not wrong about the tumblr watcher obsession. It’s quite possibly taken even farther that you take it. At this point watchers aren’t their general media representation of being personification of the audience. Generally they’re depicted as eldritch being or gods interfering with players and the Universe at large for they’re own gain and entertainment. Often times you’ll see the explanation for their presence at Evo explained as them taking interest in the time traveling update server, a trend that was very new at the time of Evo before rising to popularity but almost never in a multiplayer server. Lots of Xisuma involvement with the watchers. I’m very invested in the tumblr lore sphere, sorry for info dumping.

Another curse I have found is where the winner will always be killed by the previous winner in the end. 3rd life was the first so it doesn’t happen but last life Scott won and grian was the one who zapped Scott with lightning and in double life Scott blew himself up giving pearl the win but also killed her in the process.

Croak frog, Pet dog, Burn log, fits a lot more with pearl, ren and martyn now that limited life has happened, cause Pearl and BigB's whole thing this season is frogs (pearl's cat, froggy, and the long nosed frogs on the tower), it's almost as if the chant predicted pearl's future with frogs lol. It's not as tricky or special as some think. I have a GoXLR (it's what my mic plugs in to) and all I do is turn the reverb and delay dials to 3, then the same for pitch / tone (3 notches to the left) Then I just speak in a deeper breathty version of my actual voice to achieve the final result

Hi! I'm a bit late but I really want to share something that wasn't on this iceberg, that being the relationship between Impulse and Bdubs across each game! Basically, what I've noticed is each time one of them finds a way to kill the other, which significantly impacts the way the rest of their series goes. Third Life- Bdubs betrays Impulse at the very end, killing him for a clock and ending Impulse's series altogether. Last Life- Impulse and Grian release the Wither, which Bdubs and Etho plan to fight and which kills Bdubs, putting him back down to red and leading him to make the deal with Etho that costs him his series. Double Life- A bit self-explanatory, they were soulbound and each of their deaths took the other's life away as well, until Bdubs died in a fight with 5AM Pearl, costing them their final life. Limited Life- As Impulse is about to turn Red, he drops a TNT minecart off of the edge of Skynet, and as they were distracted fighting Grian, it kills both Cleo and Bdubs. Bdubs, having been on less than an hour at the time, lost his "final life" and died permanently. Additionally, it always switches who deals damage to who, so if this were to continue, Bdubs will do something to Impulse in the next Life Game.

My favorite part of the Life series is exactly these things! The memes, animatics, lore etc etc. I don't even care who wins or dies as long as Jimmy is out first. The series truly are all about the journey and not the destination. Also, Tango is secrety S tier as well after that escape and the rage in general.

Pizza was Grian and Scars Llama which's kidnapping and Death by Cleo set up quite a bit of Conflict before the Red King War, and the Battle of the Desert. Pizza's Grave was also where Grian and Scar had their duel to determine the victor,,, and Grian jumped off the cliff to end the series

With all the watcher stuff i consider it as a conspiracy theory of the life series. Like if you dig any deeper or go anywhere else, that's just... not a thing. Nobody else references it, it's not really a thing on Any deeper level and only referenced by one source. It hold a very little if almost no influence of the outcome or events of the games themselves. If you dont know the conspiracy or arent in on the loop then you sound crazy talking about it. Ive seen whole parts of the fandom completely confused when i talk about watcher/listener lore and spout lore theories because like... if you dont know about that, the games are litterally just a game of minecraft with no deeper intentions. However if you choose to believe the conspiracy it effects how you view the series, for the better or worse.

I would like to say that if there is between season sleep could also be backed up by the existence of alliances being remembered (like jimmy and scott in empires 1 remembering flower husbands from third life by jimmy preparing a pufferish of peace) in other series and that between the series the various other smps that people are in could be the lifers controlling real people in those alternate universes which can therefore allow these separate timelines to have their own lore which can be seen in empires and hermitcraft having their own lore but also a connection to characters in the life series despite other members of the smps not being in the life series.

I think the reason the Watchers were so high up is because even though it's not depicted in all players' perspectives, it's something a newcomer is likely to learn about through osmosis. I knew the term "Watcher" before I ever started watching any of the life series.

As someone who really isn't into the watcher stuff and tries to stay in a corner that keeps away from it (in fandom at least, I do find it interesting hearing Martyn talk about it), it's basically impossible. The Watchers definitely should be somewhere near the top. The only people who I'd say don't know about it are those who only watch the videos on youtube (and not Martyn's POV) and don't go further than that.
