Wonderland used to be so fun when I was a kid. It's gotten so bad. At least my students still enjoy it when we take them at the end of the year. Also, fun fact, I worked there during their 69th anniversary, lol

Fun facts about Wonderland. The Cycline is one of the last Milner mad mouse rides in operation, the big splash was the first log rides that Hopkins Rides built. Fantastic Journey was hand built by the park creator and used to have a twin in Tulsa. The park used to be good, this year they just struggled.
@goonerbear8659Ай бұрын
The Texas Tornado had to be modified to raise the first loop and shorten both loops because the carts couldn't gather enough speed within safety limits to make it through both loops.

I don't think Wonderland Park is bad but it hasn't changed much in 30 years. I feel its big issue is it's landlocked in Thompson Park where it can't really expand and offer anything new unless it took out some if its current rides. (I think the Mouse Trap coaster needs to go, its too rough.) Also the additional charge for the Texas Tornado and Fantastic Journey is unnecessary. But again it isn't bad just not a place to get to excited about.

For years Amarillo was not allowed to have it's own Water park, So they forced Wonderland to build more and more water rides to make up for it. I've not been to this park in over 20 years. I did not know it had gotten so bad. The times I do drive by it never has any activity.
@mssuspiriaАй бұрын
What about splash? I know it probably wasn't technically in amarillo city limits but it wasn't that far outside of town
@MagicCarpet-x3mАй бұрын
@@mssuspiria It was built years later when Wonderland could no longer fit anymore water rides, the Public was begging for a water park and finally got one. Never been to Splash, I don't even know if it's still there.

So glad you posted this. I drive by this park several times a year when going to Texas and I always smile that this kind of park even exist these days. Your video shows that it has way more stuff than you see from the highway. Hope they can survive and can get some of those closed rides going. It is seasonal, not sure when it opens but it closes for winter just after Labor day.

I deliberately visited this park on a Saturday hoping for high crowds. It worked since the coasters were cycling fairly regularly and very few things were closed.

Looks like it’s gone downhill after Mr. Rhodes passed away. The Rhoades family opened that park with 3 rides. He was a tough guy but fair. He wanted to give people a nice park to visit and enjoy the rides. I remember we had to hose down the midway before the park opened up everyday. Always looked better and cleaner that way as people could get sick, or spill cokes on the ground.

This park is a must visit on Friday / Saturday, they typically have alot of the "Thrill" rides closed on slow days and cater to the parents with kids crowd. Every time I have been on a summer Saturday night everything that can be open is open.

Amarillo local here. I gotta say Wonderland has unfortunately gone downhill within the last few years. The prices don’t help either. It can still be a lot of fun for just a day out with kids or something but the fact that so much is closed while there’s not much there to begin with is so sad to see.

I went about 4 years ago and the Ultimate wrist band was worth it since every ride was opened. I went yesterday and decided to buy the same one and this time it was not worth it. It was way more expensive than it was 4 years ago (which is understandable) yet half of the big rides were closed. After walking the park we realized and asked for a refund and they said no. Everything is outdated and broken down. Wouldn’t be surprised if they closed it permanently.

So I might be able to explain the drop of fear being closed. I went there in 2015/2016. And I was convinced to go on it and well my seat didn't exactly lock correctly I was still ok but not really a great experience. Also the drop tower has always been closed for repair when I was going to the park and my last visit was in 2019/2020 and still it wasn't open

those old rides are so much fun and no long lines like 6 flags or other huge parks, im always disappointed when we go to other parks and have to wait for what seems like hours in line. In my opinion they should just quit with the up charge crap on their better rides. The swinging ship is absolutely insane, it has no restraints and almost goes upside down, it entirely relies on centrifugal force to keep you in the seat. Unfortunately in all my years ive never seen this many rides closed at once at wonderland. Also you are right about the minigolf course, it was added in the 50's and is original to the park.

This place is own localy so i dont see much upgrades expect ,the swinggs and the drop. To me the splash was 1000% cooler until big texan brough it and destory the water park sadly. Dont expect to see anything cool.. the people decide stupid shit. Please do a review on the base ball field. that we needed more amazement than a baseball field.
@carminecdinoproductions2 ай бұрын
Maybe this park should have an adjacent water park to go alongside the main park.
@Bogustugboat12 ай бұрын
This park locally owned , I wish they had enough fun to do the upgrades. Born and raised here. The water park called "splash" was brought buy the big texan and got destroyed in process of bring moved. They could kept it open for extra revenue but decided to make a concert area were people cannot afford it. Next thing u should do is give a review to the base ball field 😅😅😂😂😂

Wonderland was the place to be in the 90s. Now everything is broke down and high priced. The owners have too many other investments like chik fil a too worry about. Someone will have to get seriously hurt for them to make a change

A Tldr of this park, it was cool a few years back, but it's slowly dying out as they won't fix any of the rides, and want to charge you out the ass for what few rides are open. Supposedly about 3 years ago, according to someone who worked there at the time the park was looking to expand and get more and newer rides, despite half of their old ones not working.

I live really close to there, and have been there several times. Going off how bad this park has gotten, a Final Destination 3 type accident is bound to happen sooner or later. I wouldn’t ride any of those rides if you payed me to. It was MUCH better in the 2000s/early 2010s.
