No joke , my favorite amusement park / comfort park. I grew up going here a lot , with all the quirky coasters and rare flat rides . I think rides like all of these deserve a special place in my heart. Yes , they are weird. That just makes it so much better. Here are some tips to those visiting the park soon. Cyclone : This ride has NO restraint , so be prepared to toss and turn. This ride offers little airtime , but has a very strong helix toward the end! Hornet: very tame ride. Flat out boring in my personal opinion , yet still enjoyable to younger audiences such as 5-11. Mouse trap : very powerful airtime in the back row , pretty mild in other parts. This ride is very enjoyable in the back for airtime and in the front for viewing purposes. Texas tornado: little airtime , but strong loops that pulls decent Gs. Every time I went to the park , I started in the front. (Not a good idea at popular parks however) but with such a small following and few visitors to the park , front to back is the best idea , or start from the front then once you reach cyclone , just do whatever after it. ONLY RE RIDE RIDES AFTER RIDING EVERY RIDE YOU WANT TO DO IF GOING ON A WEEK DAY. trust me , week days , especially days like Wednesday and Thursday’s , you only have 3 hours to ride everything you want. If you are planning to ride every ride in the park on a weekday , yes it’s possible , but very few rerides with happen. I missed the pirate ship flat ride and some other ones due to riding Texas tornado 4 times. I know this is random , but I recommend eating before you go to the park. Food prices are outrageously expensive and you can even get sent out of the park with a bottle of water. If you get the ultimate pass , just ride fantastic journey once. Just once. It’s an amazing experience for a one time ride and definitely worth the ultimate pass along with it.

I grew up two blocks away from Wonderland across Interstate 27. We were kids that never walked over there on the city streets like cars had to go. We ran directly across the interstate. Not recommended, but I’m 68 and lived through it. I’ve been in Colorado for 44 years, but next month my high school 50 year class reunion is happening.

My best friend got a severe concussion and stitches from the log flume ride because there was not enough water in the ride and the water is the only thing that slows you down so she hit a cart in the station. Also I got to ride fantastic journey more than once so that’s weird. Love your vids though

I may have to visit I just moved back to Texas, Amarillo is not close but it looks worth a visit if only to give my second favorite ride as a kid a ride. And wow I had no idea the Mayan Mine Bender or Hornet as it’s called now looked so tame lol. As a kid after Ultra Twister and maybe a tie with Greased Lighting Mayan Minebender was a favorite ride. I think mostly because the theming and how you sit in the car was unique to me.

@@CanobieCoaster it was interesting. The building was this Mayan temple/pyramid the queue had tons of twisting paths and lots of greenery around so it felt like you was walking into the jungle. As for the coaster itself my memories fail other than I know as a kid I loved it I was 17 or so when Astroworld closed. I remember the ride being easy to miss if you didn’t know where it was kinda off the beaten path and later as a teen it was a ride folks used to make out on. If my memory is correct it had bobsled seating and just a lap bar that was fairly loose. That the dark plus that it wasn’t too intense or really super popular since it was kinda in the cut made it a teenager hangout. Astroworld and Jazzland a park I also had the pleasure of calling a home park in general was like an unofficial summer camp. You had a season pass and would get dropped off or take a bus spend the day in the park often not even riding rides but just socializing and some occasional rowdy ness
@theshevirgo
@theshevirgo 3 жыл бұрын
Also there was an urban legend that some one died on this ride and the ride was haunted. Folks used to scream and say something touched them. Man thinking about it jogged my memory. I think every theme park has a ride with some stupid urban legend real or fake.

I feel like one thing making me want to go to the park is their Rainbow Ride. Growing up at the Great Escape, I got to see the ride a lot, always hoping I could ride it. One year it was gone and put behind Desperado Plunge, so I never got to ride it. I used to be obsessed with rides like it and used to claim those 1001 Naughts rides at fairs and carnivals were my favorite. They hold a ton of nostalgia for me.

@@coastercloudy Being from the Amarillo area originally, I can say that it is closer to three other state capitals than it is to it's own. Amarillo is in the northern most portion of the state. It would fit far more easily into a theme park trip based through the lower midwest (Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico, etc.) than Texas. Austin is about a 9 hour drive from Amarillo. San Antonio is 10.5 or so... (Texas is really, really big.)
@rickruthstrom222

It’s closest to Canyon, Texas. That probably doesn’t help. Interstate 40 goes through Albuquerque and Oklahoma City. As it goes through the Texas Panhandle, it also goes through Amarillo. Lubbock, about 120 miles south, is the closest big city in Texas. Check it out in Google maps or something similar. That’s easier than reading what I am posting.
