You're such a good instructor. I enjoy the way you explain things that are so basic, but important at the same time.

I loved this technique and will try it now. I am painting a lighthouse the I saw when I was in Halifax, Canada. I will try the knife on some of my rocks around the lighthouse! Thank you.

Do some practice exercises first to discover the potential available.

In the Studio Art Instruction thank you Dianne. Oops... I already did it yesterday after watching your tutorial! I probably should have practiced it first... but I was just so excited about it! LOL. I am pleased and it is up on my Facebook page. I will do some practice exercises and be ready for the next time. I have been watching your drawing tutorials too and this is the first I did using one of the pictures I took. Thanks again!

Thank you, Ms. Mize😃 Thank you for sharing your knowledge and beautiful gift of teaching! I have a few 'pet peeves' that I watch people do in watercolor but one of my biggest is using dirty water on clean paint via the brush! 😬😬😬That drives me mad! I have 4 water containers that I use to clean my brush between colors and an extra (clean) water container to activate, or use only on separate colors! I know it's overkill but I'm happy with it 😁 Some videos are almost impossible to watch because of the dirty water in the clean, vibrant color! I'm not meaning the water after 2 or 3 colors have been used...that's different. I'm meaning the water that looks like it just come from a murky, clay-mud swamp! Poor Goldfish!!!😉 God Bless!!!

ChiRho, that kind of sloppiness drives me crazy, too. Once the water started dulling the color, it's time to replace it. Thanks for your rant. :)

This has been helpful. I tried coloring cherries today and they were very dull, rather than rich and glossy. I think I swatched the devil out of it. LOL I will try again. Thank you for sharing your amazing knowledge.

Look for value first, hue second and intensity third rather than looking at them as cherries.

Thank you so much. These are the best tips and straightforward tutor on KZbin that I have learnt so far. I'm a self taught beginner watercolor student and have been struggling with myself lately. You give me hope that I could now keep going and practicing. Could you please give any tips on how to paint loose roses in watercolor? I really like them but find it hard to imagine the shape in my head and the way each petals arranged and to put it down on paper. The wet on wet technique particularly. Thank you and I hope that my wish will come true teacher 🙏😊☺

Two things: it is better to observe how the lights and shadows are changing the colors of the shapes rather than to try to imagine the shape. Observation should come before imagining. Second, wet in wet will never give crisp shapes. If you want soft edges, wet on slightly damp should work. If you want crisp edges, then wet on dry is your ticket. I will put your request on our schedule, but because we film these several weeks in advance, it will be at least July or August before it appears on KZbin.

All tips are great. One question; I have heard that it is best to use distilled water for acrylic paint instead of tap water. What is your opinion (I value) on using it for water color and do you agree using it for acrylics?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction6 жыл бұрын
Kathy, when doing watercolor painting, water is water. I have used all kinds from numerous locations and I don't see any difference in the results. As for acrylic painting, I use acrylics only for the underpainting notan for my oils. Whoever suggested the distilled water must have a reason for doing so, but unless a certain water has some unusual effect on the paint, I think that's probably a stretch.
