This same technique would apply to painting roses right? From watching you what I’m learning and painting is everything starts with painting just basic structures with adding in shadows and shapes and before you know it, it falls in place. My problem I have is I get lost in my painting. If that makes any sense at all. Another great tip. Love watching you. Many blessings.

Yes. It is always better to begin general with seeing large shapes and general values first. Developing a painting from general to specific, you won't get lost.

Dear Dianne, I am not sure on how much to dilute or not dilute oil paint and the different proportions of turpentine to linseed oil. If you have any suggestions it would be greatly helpful. Excellent tips as usual and thanks.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction
@IntheStudioArtInstruction 6 жыл бұрын
The major oil paint manufacturers use a carefully balanced formula for the highest integrity of the paint. When diluting, we must be careful that we don't destroy the integrity of the paint. After being coached by one of the major painting conservators in the 1980's, I've been very careful. So when diluting your oil paint, first use a medium that is carefully formulated. As far as making your own medium, no less than 1/3 turps to linseed oil or a combination of oils is recommended. As far as how much medium to add, be conservative

Browse down through the quick tips and find those that include gouache in the title. Beyond that, gouache works much the same as working with oils or acrylics.

Viewers please hit that subscribe button...reason..we all appreciate the time it takes to make and upload these videos , moreover- artist Diannes tips are most valuable. If your a beginner I suggest you go thru all of her videos here. If one wants to become a painter weather it be for a hobby or to advance it's most important to learn all the basics and keep in mind with painting it's a long time never ending learning process. Also..most important here..Dianne doesn't get paid and is doing all this for free, but..if she reaches 10,000 subs she will receive something back from KZbin- we can also help in buying her lessons which I am collecting and appreciate that they are available in DVD format... Dianne may I ask..this is off subject..sorry for this...I watched a video in which an artist indicates you can glaze using only turps or OMS...I found that to be impossible as I think that would be a wash using OMS and of course in the method of a wash...I can't seem to find any info refuting his claim...I thought of you...thanks so much.. Also he states that using titanium white with only linseed is a glaze ? I thought glazing is with using transparent colors. I appreciate your time..

Thanks for that, @gigiscottos. To answer your question about glazing--any solvent mixed with oil paint reduces its binder's integrity. A solvent should never be used as a glaze because it thins the binder that holds pigment particles together reducing the paints ability to adhere to the layer underneath. As to whether thinned titanium white can be used as a glaze--a glaze by definition is a thin, transparent layer applied over an opaque layer of paint. An opaque color cannot be made totally transparent. When thinned, the particles are spread out, floating in the medium, causing them to be visible no matter how thinned they are. Add to that, the medium will darken over time. However, today's definitions of technical terms have suffered scrutiny due to artists who've not studied the chemistry of paint and who violate its integrity without realizing they are doing so. I hope this answers your question.
