I wish I watched you earlier I bought Gamblin paints I guess you favorite Rembrandt. I enlighten watching your videos and lean a log from it . Thanks you very much .

Sima, I favor whatever brand gives me the characteristics that work best for me. The Rembrandt brand of Viridian, Transparent Oxide Red, Cadmium Yellow Deep and Light Yellow Ochre is my favorite brand of those colors. But I favor the Gamblin brand of Titanium White, Ultramarine Blue, Permanent Alizarin, Cadmium Red Light and several others. I always advise students to use the brand that works best for them.

I have not yet begun to watch, I just know this is exactly what I need! I am working on still life, a HUGE slice of pineapple: SKIN OY...I need the greens!!! BLESS YOU!!! Since starting my oil painting exploration, the best part is that I have REMBRANDT VIRIDIAN!! As an encaustic wax artist, the Rembrandt collection of oil paints is my go to for coloring the bees wax/damar resin. Worth every penny! Rubin red? DON'T GET ME STARTED! The Prussian purple? MAKES A GREAT BLACK!

Very nice tip! One thing I'd like to point out: W&N Artists' Viridian; Maimeri and Daler Rowney also produce good viridians.

Your pallete has oil paints in sequence that's amazing. And I think it's not possible to add back the paint left to tube back. When I keep my paint like this the upper surface of it dry. How do you protect it? Or doest it happen with you too?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction7 жыл бұрын
I like having all my colors around me while I'm painting. That probably comes from being also a watercolor painter. Anyway, when setting up my palette, my habit has always been to place the colors around the palette's edges according to the color wheel. From there, I pull the colors I need. When a painting requires several days' work, at the end of a work session, I give the wet paint a slight spritz of a poppyseed oil/gamsol mix, then lay plastic wrap over it and seal out air pockets. After a painting is finished, I leave on the palette's edges paint all that is left over, so what you see is an accumulation of year's of leftover paint. To begin a new painting session, I squeeze out fresh paint on top of that which is dry.

I cover my paints with wax paper and they stay soft. If too mush paint is lifted when I remove the wax paper the next day, I scrape it off and add it back to the palette. Many people cover with Saran Wrap.
@swmient5 жыл бұрын
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction I cover it with waxed paper. If it's very hot out, I use 2 layers. Works great.

thank you for your video. I am just starting in oil and was trying to make a decision on using phthalo blue or viridian as my choice to mix my greens on my pallet. you offered absolution in my decision yesterday to stay with viridian in my decision. i think its sometimes ironic how we find reassurance with our decisions. thank you again.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing that, David. I'm convinced that when we're on the right path, the things we need appear at just the right time. Enjoy exploring the options Rembrandt Viridian has for mixing greens.

What about some brand/hue recommendations for those of us using acrylics? I can't use oils anymore.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction2 жыл бұрын
Dwight, I don't use acrylics so it would be pretentious of me to make any recommendations about them, but the color mixing concepts work the same in acrylics as in oils.
@bayouboyarts2 жыл бұрын
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction Thanks. I've been having a problem finding a PG18 Viridian in acrylic. I went to the Rembrandt site and found the pigment number to help me search otherwise. BTW, I thoroughly enjoy your videos. The other day I busted up laughing when you said "Today we're doing grass. No, not that kind of grass."

I was taught to mix my own black if I want to use for grays. I see with your method and paint choice the colors used will offer more transparency. Am I correct?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction6 жыл бұрын
Yes, but only to the degree that the tube colors themselves are transparent. The Rembrandt Viridian I'm using in this Quick Tip, unlike most viridians, is totally transparent. And by the way, when mixed with Alizarin, it makes a beautiful cool, transparent black. The same black also can be mixed with Thalo Green and Alizarin.

Why not Phthalo green? Wouldn’t the color mixtures be similar?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction2 жыл бұрын
Maria, I avoid Phthalo green because its tinting strength is so powerful, plus sometimes it tends to bleed to the top of colors it is mixed into. Instead, I use the Rembrandt brand of Viridian that has the hue very close to that of phthalo green, has the rich, dark value and the transparency.
