@MitchellPeterson885 ай бұрын
I actually (I could be wrong) think they were mistaken in this video to be honest - the detune sound is most likely coming from the SuperVHS plugin on the track and not the (very minimal) modulation on the reverb size. They also have a unison with a bit of detune on the saw wave.

@@mich3134 care to expand on that? I'm praising Charli and her team for being good songwriters. My assertion is just that the producers are clearly trying to obfuscate what they're doing. Which is silly because the sound design itself is incredibly simple - just a bunch of square waves and saw waves.

I'm glad people are appreciating the creativity of underground dance music and putting it into these pop songs, but my big beef is how neutered and lacking in bite and rawness they sound because they are all coming from in the box. Seeing that OSCAR synth in the background and remembering how nasty a sound Ed Rush and Optical got from that thing, makes me feel that people should get back to using more hardware and not just drenching things in VST reverbs and bollocks like that to make stuff sound interesting. Nothing really gets you going as that nasty dance music that was being made from the late 80s to the late 90s in all those home studios and small independent record labels. It all sounds too nice to really hit the same way. Give me Drexciya and stuff recorded into a tape 4 track any day over this new stuff.

The difference between the over the top quirkiness of Everything is romantic and the provocatorily obvious Club classics was clear but I realise just now they were produced by different persons. Still on the album the more banale (von dutch, club classics or apple) works well with the wacky and outlandish. I guess it grounds the album and makes it palatable for the mainstream because let's be honest, this is not a mainstream record at all. Its savage depiction of the average tiktoker girl (starting from the green screen green on the cover) is tragicomically cruel. And naturally Charli and AG Cook are a talented artistic couple ..the microtonal games pc music has been playing 4 a decade now I always found quite brilliant.
