I just purchased the Harbor Freight chipper to clean up the brush around my yard from storms and from when I cut down the occasional tree for firewood. I knew my chipper was about the smallest one on the market (it does work well for me so far though), but watching this video has humbled me big time! Another great video, really cool to see this equipment in action.

Chippers are fun I have a very small pto driven one. It will swallow and chew about a 7 or 8 inch log. It requires at 30-40 HP tractor. I kind of forgot about it until I watched your video, now I know how I am going to clean up some of the storm damage from this summer!!!!! (I must be getting "old timers disease" like our prez!!!)

Yay! Chipper day 😊 A local, to me, school has a biomass system. They average a semi load a week. They heat, get hot water, maintain the pools temperature,and air-condition (I'm not sure how A/C works with biomass 🤷) with their biomass reactor. Good video 👍

Now that is an old chipper hard to believe it is still working as good. I have seen many different chippers. But love them all. You know back in Maine they use to pull the stumps and most would be well over 40 in and they would drop them in the chipper and then send them off to make fire logs out of them. Believe it or not most people used fire logs just for looks they didn't use it for heating. I have used them for both and was surprised to see how well they can heat but they don't last long in a wood-stove.
@thefirewooddoctor4 ай бұрын
@danelionheart5881 more likely to be a tub grinder for stumps. Those machines make this chipper look small. But the tub grinders pretty much make the same end product as a chipper.

@@thefirewooddoctor Yes but it is fun to watch it do the job. I have worked with wood most my life yet I get the most pleasure from watching other do it lmao. We use to take a light saw to prune a tree because it was easier to prune the tree while it was upright then laying down. We would climb as far up as we could and then cut from the top down. I use to climb window makers just to get them down and just before they hit the ground I would jump off . Man I did a lot of crazy things in my stupid days lmao.

Chris...Amazing piece of machinery and really fun to watch the operator keep it fed! I wonder with running all that "junk" through it how often he needs to sharpen the teeth? Or maybe it's like a chainsaw...give it enough horsepower and the sharpens of the cutters becomes less of an issue. Living in Eastern VA during Isabelle, they came in with these two 1000hp tub grinders. It was amazing watching those things grind up and spit out anything their grapples could lift. I watched 50" pine logs 20 feet long get ground to chips in about three minutes.

That's cool to watch. I'm considering getting a chipper I have a stack of branches 10'x5' tall that I end up burning that would make good mulch.
@InTheWoodyard4 ай бұрын
You would probably better off burning it and getting some free chips/mulch from you town/city disposal site.
@markd91054 ай бұрын
@@InTheWoodyard I think they charge for mulch. Considering what chippers cost it probably would still be cheaper to buy mulch and burn the branches.

They were going around Appleton with a chipper this size cutting down all the dead ash trees on my side of town. I remember seeing that chain drive feeding system on the chipper and thinking this is big time. They would grab and cut whole sections of the tree and run it through the chipper including the base of the tree with a large excavator. The tree bases were easily 20+ inches. Took them 15 minutes to do three threes. It was awesome! The tree service was from Minocqua.

Dont worry there are 1,200 hp versions. They bog down just the same as that one does. Its pretty common for them to have a removable wheel dolly, and then when on site they run around on tracks with a remote control system. . The latest new push is makeing charcoal on site with a contained air curtain over the top. They haul it off in the same sorta chip trailers. When the price point for putting it bulk on farm fealds hits the market for it will open up immensely is my understanding.

If you wipe your butt with TP, thank a logger today. All things paper, from towels, printing paper, plates, napkins, cardboard and newspaper. Pulp wood comes from operations like this, paper products are made from it. Lets see now, do you believe an operation like this one will ever be able to run on batteries? From the man on the saw to the drivers hauling to the papermill. 😮
