I really liked the camera shot where your feet disappeared in the saw dust,Chris! I have a 6" spade bit that I use on a 3/4 hammer drill for chipping up old floor tile. Chris that’s what I’m talking about ,big wood . The kind you use your pallet forks to lift up on to the splitter. They yield a lot of split pieces. And gives your chainsaw a chance to prove it’s self .happy cutting Chris and Ken. My mother had a picture taken in 1920 ,in Chippewa falls Wi ,the guy was standing at the cut end of the tree. The log was about 3ft over his head. Yikes ,keep on cutting

Good morning Chris and Kenny!!😀😀 There sure was a lot of work to buck them up and they are only half done. Your 592 should be getting broken in after all those big cuts. It's really a good way to find out if it's going to last or not. I see very little difference between the 592 and the 395 . It would have been fun to have been there with my 660's and did a little comparison while helping you out. All the dirt that was on them had to of really sucked. I'm sure you guys did a lot of chopping off camera that we didn't see. You guys sounded pretty tired at the end of the video. Take care my friends!!😀😀 Logger Al

If I may make a suggestion, and if you don't take it I could care less. If the next round of wood is dirty like that. Get a carbide chain. They are expensive, but you don't have to stop and sharpen. They will cut a little slower, and loosen more. I had cut a lot of wood from a flooded river, mainly ash. The wood was covered in sand, rocks, weeds , and other crap. Once I went to carbide my production almost doubled. No need to use the ax to peel muddy bark away. Just trying to save you some extra work. Have a good day!
@kennethcarlson8713
@kennethcarlson8713 2 жыл бұрын

Saws are $1000 and $1100 not much difference price, front vs side adjust. Observations 592 seemed more prone to stalling out in the cut vs the 395, 395 seemed slightly sharper with a slight chatter so lower rakers as well yes no or am I all wet? Tire chains are such a pain in the dong, that I decided long ago- if the roads are bad enough to require chains- I'm not driving. I went to my favorite honey hole yesterday to clean up the rest of the old maple logs still solid enough to use- and discovered that it is now FULL of giant chunks of tree service wood. Much of it at least as big as what you have here! There's even some silver maple that's 5' in diameter!!! There's at least a dozen or so entire yard monster trees here- all silver maple or honey locust. They chipped anything 6" or less, then dumped the rest here. One of the maintenance guys told me that my other go to spot is ALSO full with just as much. Me and my 16" bar are feeling a bit outclassed! Plenty of 6-12" logs, too. YEARS worth of good firewood- for free. I'm kinda looking forward to trying out different techniques to see just how big a log I can cut with that bar.
@InTheWoodyard
@InTheWoodyard 2 жыл бұрын
My advice is to get a 70cc or bigger saw and a 24" bar as soon as you can, you will be glad you did!

@@InTheWoodyard Believe it or not, I'm actually looking to get a top handle "baby" saw next, lol. The one I have is awkward to use for the trimming and ripping jobs around the yard, because the power unit itself is quite long. It also has a tendency to fling individual pieces around, unless you pinch them against the dogs- making it difficult to complete the cut. I love that little saw John (fricknjeep) has- it looks perfect for me! Probably a Stihl, because I have a local mom n pop dealer that also works on them. I'm just cutting for me, for my grill and campfires, so I can just ignore anything my saw can't handle, lol.

Cool vid Chris. Getting it done! I know I’ve been there, when you get into big wood it’s easy to lose your sense of whether you are cutting straight. Then you finish and see that half the round is at 15 and the other is 17🤬. Then you gots of little sticks off once it’s split! It drives me nuts! Oh well. There’s a lot of sticks in each round! I wonder how many rounds it takes for a face cord🤔

Forget Tractor Time with Tim, how about “Kowabunga Khaos with Kenny”!! Johnny Popper should buy back his tractor from him for product development evaluation and give him a brand new one! But I’d almost bet that he wouldn’t want a new one.

Even the Wolfe Ridge 28HO that I'd love to get might struggle lifting the 36in oak rounds cut to 16in length onto the splitter beam. Debating between the budget friendly Wolfe Ridge 28PRO of which capacity I've almost outgrown, the reasonable balance of wants and needs 28C, and the dream 28HO that can be towed at 80mph.

I'm sure you've heard this too many times, but it's a shame those logs aren't going on a sawmill. Tire chains for that tractor aren't cheap anymore(I'm sure that's why you have just the front )! You should watch Sandy from "Sawing with Sandy" put chains on his machine. He's got it down to a science.

The video with everything in it. Ken drifting a tractor, really nice sized wood, chainsaws going hard at it and Chris and Ken speaking BS. The only thing is that Chris's whiskers need growing out for that bigger wood. How much cheaper is it buying nice sized wood like that rather than piddly sized 9-12" stuff?

Hiya Chris, lovely oak….lot of firewood in those sticks! You could do with Mike Morgan’s skid loader with heavy duty ‘grapple,’ and his excavator with the log splitter….it would make ‘mincemeat’ of even these very large rounds! By the sounds of it, you and Kenny are going to be busy for quite some time! Excellent content, Carlson bros….keep it up chaps! Bet ‘big Rodders would like to get his teeth into some of this!
