I remember using a push snowblower to clean my lot when I first started. We live in Northern Ontario so we get a lot of snow. I was too cheap to pay someone to do it because I wanted to invest my money in more loads of wood. Fast forward 5 years, I now have a John Deere tractor with a heated cab and I front mounted snow blower. Like is certainly easy now compared to back then. I appreciate and I'm grateful for all that I have. You and I are very similar my friend. I love your stories. Thank you for sharing.

I have a 23 hp compact tractor..I fabricated my own snow pusher..it's 6 feet wide...on the back I have a 6 foot scraper blade on the 3 point hitch . Instead of back dragging with the pusher..I back up to buildings..sidewalks etc and pull it forward with the scraper blade far enough to back up and use the pusher . It saves a lot of time . My tractor is small enough to do sidewalks as well. Just throwing the idea out there..they are reasonable new..but I bought a used one in near mint condition for $100 and I use it year round for grading stone..dirt..etc

I do not have a glow plug on my tractor. I have had it since 2005. Our temps only get down around 0-10 degrees Fahrenheit for a week or two. Then back around 30 degrees. Mine has started with no problem for years. I have thought about putting one on but have not had any problems. Love the different videos you offer

Good morning from Downeast Maine. Obviously you made the right decision when you bought the snow pusher. Years ago, I used to plow with my tractor, and that worked fine for me because I plowed driveways. Now I have the best of both worlds, I have a Super Duty with a 9'-2" v-plow! The v is great for deep snow and I can also angle right or left. And if I have a volume of snow to move, just angle both wings forward and you have a huge scoop. The technique you were talking about in the beginning reminds me of when I leaf rake. I start close to the pile and rake all them, instead of starting at the other end and having a six foot pile that's getting bigger and pushing it eighty feet, that's heavy and breaks my rake.

Chris, Try using the walk-behind snowblower first to throw all of the snow out of the corners and tight spots out to a place it can be pushed by the tractor. You may consider this for around the woodpiles too. Great video.....

One suggestion that you previously mentioned that can save you some time, money, and frustration in the future. Set the pusher down and tilt it so it is sitting flat on the skid shoes, then make your tape mark or whatever on the level indicator rod. Always try to hit that mark. When you have it tilted back you will wear on the back of the skids and wear out your rubber edge prematurely.

@In The Woodyard float doesn’t level the pusher, it just lets the arms ride up and down to follow the ground. Watch the video and you will see the the pusher tilted back towards the tractor

I think your thoughts on the pusher vs plow are right on. A pusher sure looks like a better option for parking lots and large open areas. Also, that's all I see the pros using in big parking lots. I have a plow for my long narrow driveway but there's no where to push the snow other than the ditches and its over a 1/4 mile long. Even so there are areas when a pusher would be great like in front of my garage and parking area. You always do your homework anyway so don't worry about the noise.

Great question A and S. Tree service wood is great if you can get it delivered and it is not ALL of the junk wood, crotches, limbs, pieces and low grade wood like willow, cottonwood, box elder, spruce, etc. IF you can get the better wood and you are just getting started with firewood or cutting for yourself, then yes it is a good thing. Be picky and build up a relationship with the tree service so that they understand you can help them if you can get the better wood. That might mean giving them a hand from time to time. Good luck!

You're getting the hang of it the only Vice that I could give is on your parking lot there if you only took a three-quarter swipe of the wind of your pusher then you wouldn't likely unless it was a big snow to get that snow Edge I call it and have to take another pass it should handle it but other than that I think you're doing great and the other thing you'll find is by clearing the snow off of all that area around your wood you'll find that it'll be a lot drier and firmer come spring

Chris even an experienced operator would have to plow the site a few times before they figured out the best way to do it. With the heavy wet snow you might be better to use a small portion of the pusher and let it fill up as you go across the lot. If you use the whole pusher and make a short run then back up and push again and back up you'll be driving on the snow before you push it. If it's wet that will pack down quickly and make scraping a lot harder.

I'm thinking you have the right tool for the job, especially with the cutting edge not being steel - your sod would be needing lots of attention come spring time with a metal cutting edge. That is a retention pond - meant to retain the storm water run off from your building and parking lot, allowing that water that might have been absorbed by the ground but can't now cause of building / pavement to be slowly released avoiding erosion. I get the idea of pushing your snow into it but I would be cautious. Where I live way over here in Atlantic Canukistan we often get heavy rain events in winter when the ground is froze. Water has to go somewhere. My concern is if it's full of snow buildup you are decreasing the volume the retention pond can retain, defeating the purpose. Maybe over there in Winter-consin you don't get the south-easters bring wind and rain in the winter. Good job with the pusher, glad to see your letting the tractor warm up - cold is hard on them. I've a little experience plowing with a tractor with a traditional snow plow blade, and lots of experience plowing with a truck and plow blade. If the plow blades are so much better than the pusher why is everyone adding "wings" to their plow blades? :P You'll find what works best for you. Money well spent on the pusher IMHO. Keep after it!

It is working great so far. We do not usually have fast thaws in the spring, it takes forever. My detention "pond" or as I like to call it waste of valuable space, and money, is a great place for the snow . The supposed drain tube , a 10" pvc tube running to the back of the property has NEVER had water go through it in 20 years, the water just sits there in the ground in front of it for a day or so and then drains down in the soil and disappears. It is a waste of the $25,000 for plans and in DNR approvals I had to spend on it. My rant is done now. Sorry Brian.

Hey I am a very small firewood supplier in oregon and want to expand. I am on a tight budget but looking to get a old truck and trailer to start delivering a cord of wood to my customers. What do you suggest?

Good question Jacob! First off, cut as much firewood as you can as soon as you can and cut the stuff people want in your area. Basically, build up inventory, it takes time to do that and for the wood to dry. What do you have for a truck now, how much can you haul with it and is it dependable. A 5x8 3,000 lb. trailer is all you need to start. With that you can haul 2 face cords or 2/3 of a full cord. That is all you need. Find a good used one or borrow one, that is what I did for a full year. I wish you the best in your new venture, now get cuttin'!

Because I like being OUTside as much as possible and I am on and off the tractor a lot and a cab is for people who don't get off much for one, thing also I intend on using it in the woods a lot and cabs don't live long in the woods.

what I will do is get snowblower on your tractor and do that

A blower would be nice but a good one is about $8,000 and then there is the chunks of stray wood to worry about getting in the auger!
