Another break from real labor watching your tutorials. It's been unusually cold this season with no snow ( 8"-9" today, 16 F ) so we're over the 3 cords so far for heating. Both stoves going 24/7 for the inside 80 F 😁 . Few here use firewood anymore ( prosperity, natives HAD to use wood for heat, obesity, laziness, mini splits, cheaper oil + gas, efforts involved using firewood, virtuous calling wood heat 'polluting', etc...) . My brother and I Have 3 large logging jobs to do this winter. Literally Thousands of dead ash to cut. No snow makes it easy but brutal cold isn't worth working in. U cold sweat and then you get chilled. When its 20 + degrees u are alot more efficient and get way more cut and skidded out. Hopefully theres nice days ahead to get the forwarder out there and start piling up all the pulpwood, firewood and sawlogs. Cutting every dead ash and dead tree on roughly 40 acres
@InTheWoodyard11 күн бұрын
That is a lot of ash to cut! Time for you and your brother to kick some ASH!
@Garrett572xpg11 күн бұрын
@@InTheWoodyard we've got only 30% cut of the 40 acres. 2nd job has about 500 trees to get cut most are 14" with about 20 giant 36" diam. ash sawlog trees. 3rd job is like 3k cedar trees for posts and poles and sawlogs for our sawmill but we probably won't get those it unless we are cutting fast thru the ash or have a long winter. Eventually we'll get a processor. We are looking at buying a friend's timberjack forwarder with heat sometime this year . Maybe be able to use it and pay it off monthly not all at once.

This is not a political statement. I had a good friend die from covid and leave behind a special needs son. He had just turned 40 and was in good shape. Acting like the pandemic was a nothing burger is not cool

Yup it was something...I had it twice ...it was just like the flu... but it was made out to be way more than they needed to.

Firewood sales should pick up next four years. People won't be able to afford to heat with gas/oil/electric and will burn wood to survive. Your customers will switch from luxury buyers to subsistence buyers.
@InTheWoodyard12 күн бұрын
No, I think the economy will get better and people will have more to spend. 90% of my customers burn for fun and are willing to pay more for it than people who HAVE to heat with wood to save money...totally different market.
@AlGritzmacher6 күн бұрын
@@InTheWoodyard I sure hope so! There was a time in my life that I used wood to supplement my home heating. But today, I only burn it for enjoyment. Having a fire to sit around on my patio is a real joy. Either way, you have it covered!

I lived in Daytona for 20 years. I had a hundred year old beach house. It was miserable every winter. I'm now up here in the tri-state in another hundred year old house with an awesome fireplace and completely warm. I don't miss Florida a bit get out of there before a hurricane takes you away and your insurance company leaves you hanging ✌️

8:09 Hey Chris, do you still sell locust and iron wood...as we all know those 2 kinds burns hotter than oak! Maybe you can convert your clients to burning that??? ....Glad your firewood sales is going up!🪵🪵🪵👍👍👍How is it going with the cats by the way?🐱
@InTheWoodyard12 күн бұрын
Yes I do sell it...the problem with it is 1. that I can not get enough of it and 2. it is very hard to re-educate the people to the reality of things they do not believe is possible so...oak it is.... for a lot of them!
