Nice little saw. After hand filing for over 50 years you converted me to the dremel a couple years ago. For badly damaged chains I’ll use my tecomec bench grinder, but for 98% of my sharpening the dremel is great… thanks Chris!

I have one of those saws. I bought it because I wanted a nice lightweight saw. I don't always need to be using the 60-80cc saws. Nice too for my side by side or ATV when out riding. Strap a nice small light saw on there in case a tree is across a trail or something that needs moved out the way. I actually use my smaller saws a lot more now than I used to. My back can only take so much of the heavier saws. I can cut all day with the smaller saws even if it takes longer to cut I can go all day and still be able to stand up and walk lol. If I am cutting bigger stuff I obviously get out the bigger saws but if its stuff no bigger than 14-16 inch diameter I just grab this saw or one of my top handle saws most the time.

I use a pole saw when I’m removing the junk sucker pines from my property similar to your fathers. Too much bending over for my back there. However, Modern Rental had their fall sale and I bought a new Husky 435. Nice little saw for limbing and small trees. They had a deal on the Husky fuel too. Good folks there. BTW, my “forever saw” is a 55.

I have a 500$ Oregon chain grinder an honestly use a hand file more often. Everyone has their own opinion but I feel as tho my chain stays sharper with a good hand filing.

Great video Chris- I’ve been using Husqvarna all season bar oil. I like it. I agree with you- any bar oil should work fine. I do use Sthil Ultra 2 cycle oil in all my saws. For me as I’m in my late 50s, I like the Husqvarna 562 XPG with a 20 inch bar as an all around chainsaw. I have to say, I like that 540.

I’ve been running 32:1 and here lately I’ve started adding Sea Foam to my mix as well. It seems to make the saw run a bit better and the added benefit is it cleans the carbon build up out beside the fuel stabilization benefit. I tried one gallon of that premixed crap because it came with a weed wackier and had to warranty return due to the fuel. So I’ll keep mixing my own fuel and keep my older saws running and hopefully my newer ones will out last me

Adding more oil makes it run leaner. My son bought out a saw shop and just gave me a slightly used Stihl 170. I have a couple Stihl 72cc saws. But the little 170 comes in handle cutting limbs that fall in the winter. Had a pine tree come down in a wind storm. I was surprised how it handled something bigger. It is 39cc.

I've used a dremel on beat up teeth and when on a site and needed a 36" chain resharpened quick. I may be wrong but sharpening with a single speed Dremel at high rpms seems to make a tooth that starts sharp but dulls much quicker. I bought a Dremel with adjustable rpm so I could use it at the lowest rpm, but I still prefer a hand file. 🤷. As long as you're happy it's all good. Very nice tailgate stand by the way. Chris...My son is a tree climber and wants to try the new T540 xp Markiii top handle. Almost $300 less than a 201T. Those little saws get high revs almost as fast as an electric. Your 540 rear handle saw is a little ripper. If you want a saw for the rest of your life you are going to have to get one while they are still available...Dolmar/Makita 6400. Light, fast chain speed, lots of low-end grunt for a 13,800 rpm 60cc saw, fantastic anti-vibe, best throttle trigger out there, easily tuned, and best of all for you they take Husky bars. Way ahead of their time...just a shame Makita bought Dolmar and then went total electric. Hopefully someone buys them from Makita and continues making one of the best German chainsaws ever!

Yes, this is sad! My grandpa always worked in German forests with Dolmar. In age 14 I got my first Dolmar from him. It was an old 112. Later I had two 420 (first and second), 3410 and 5000 CX. Great saws!

Chris that old field cultivator you’re featuring in this video, I used the main framework and the drawbar from the one I have ( removed all the diggers ) and made a feed table for my wood splitter. And I used rebar for the top that way small stuff can fall through. The other thing I did was to use a flat piece diamond plate on one end for a turning surface. Nice saw , keep on cutting

When everyone was saying in the last video "500i, 462 etc. I was like screw that! lol. I have a Husq. 355 which was my first saw ever and I used it to cut 2 trees and parked it for years and pulled it out last week and it looks brand new and fired right up but the biggest thing I noticed was how light it was compared to my 462 and my Echo 620P. I'm going to look into using my Dremel from now on. I use the 2 n 1 sharpeners for years now but on a 25 and 24" bar it takes several minutes compared to a minute.

I run older saws (mostly Stihl) 35 to 1 or around that is what I run, more smoke yes, carb adjustment yes, but my saws never get hot and they are still going strong. I have some saws that have the carb adjustment "limiters" that is another reason I run a richer mixture, they seem to rev too hard..........

Great saw! It looks brutal with the Dremel sharpening, but it just looks like that on the screen. The "problem" is more that the hand file is slow and removes metal a bit to slow compare to Dremel. 👍😊

IF you find a right oil. Most of today‘s oils are blended thicker for the 50:1 ratio. They have to make it up somewhere. I actually use Schaeffer‘s 7000 boat oil 32:1 in my 70+ cc saws. Low viscosity and low flash point. Only smokes coming off idle after start up. The only boat oil I would recommend in a saw.

So you cut a few softwood pine bushes and you're grinding your chain again but you didn't screw up the temper in your teeth did you. To each his own but I've used both methods as well. 15 maybe 20 minutes with a good file on a quality chain and I'm good to saw hardwood all day. I'll be sticking with my file thanks.

I am not that good and in one minute can be back at cutting while you are sharpening for another 19 minutes. I used to hand file and still can but time is the most valuable thing I have. And after 10 years of using modern sharpening methods with a rotary tool I have never had a problem with a tooth and it's temper and breaking. How do you think the factory sharpens the new chains...a grinding bit not a file.

On the gas/oil mix, I've been using the Stihl Ultra in my Husqvarna saws and Stihl trimmers. I really like it, been using it since Stihl first came out with it. Some people think it stinks, I think it smells pretty good. Absolutely no issues with it. I mix in 2 gallon batches, using the bottles labeled for 2 1/2 gallons, I've never done the math on it, but I figure that's about right for 40:1ish mix (actually I just did the math... it's 39.3:1!) Huskies actually do like Stihl oil 🙂🙂🙂. But the Stihl oil has gotten so danged expensive, I recently bought some Husqvarna oil on sale, and I might switch after I use up my stock of Ultra... I know it will be just fine... but it really makes me a bit uneasy to switch, I know that's crazy, right? Forever saw for me: Husky 562... I've never ran one, but my Husky 55 is just a bit small, but close, and my 372 is just a bit too big to do EVERYTHING, and the 395xp is WAYYY too big to do everything. I figure the 562 should hit the sweet spot. Good Night Irene!!

At my former job, we had Stihl equipment. I didn’t like the smell of the synthetic oil, especially when your running a backpack blower for a good part of the day. I eventually bought the standard oil which was more tolerable. My advice to anybody is run the manufacturers oil when your tool is under warranty. That’s the first thing the repair shop will get you on is assuming you aren’t running their oil when you take it in for repairs. After that, run whatever oil you prefer, but don’t mix it too lean to avoid a meltdown. My new Husky I recently bought, I also bought their premix fuel.The dealer had a special which extended the warranty to 5 years if you purchased 3 bottles for $25. I believe the regular price is about $10 per can. My next saw will most likely be that 562xp with a 20 inch bar.

Great video! I handled one at a dealer the other day, a real feather weight saw! 50:1 is 2% oil in the gasoline. 40:1 is 2.5%. 32:1 is a shade over 3%. Most reputable saw builders will say they find very little evidence of lower end lubrication on saws run 50:1.

Glenn...That saw has a ,325 pitch chain so it would take a 3/16" grind stone versus the 7/32" grind stones Chris uses on his 3/8 (.375) pitch chains.

Its 44 here in Alabama. Goodmorning everybody. Could use a light saw. Amazing how under 20 lbs gets heavy after a while lol. Could be lm just getting old lol.

I have this same saw and some top handles that I use a lot. I can run them all day. When I run my 60-80cc range saws after a while my body can't take it. If I run some of those saws all day I can hardly stand or walk the next day. If I don't need a bigger saw I grab one of these little guys. Feel fine after and can run as long as I want without my back giving out. Its nice too for my side by side and ATVs. Come across trees or limbs all the time that fell across the trails. Nice to have a chainsaw on hand to clear the way and don't really want a saw with a 20-28 inch bar strapped to the atv when all you need is something like this. Even one of the higher quality battery powered saws would be perfect for that.

Spruce is great firewood. In most of Alaska it is THE ONLY wood! All wood burns! Some day I will talk about it

@@InTheWoodyard forgot there is also the factor that its brand new. I find about 15 tanks to break a saw in on average. I also run 45-1 for genuine oem saws. 32-1 for gray market ones.

Yes 45:1 for Husqvana oil not like 50:1 Stihl Oil which has better lubrication 😊

May want to check out Richard Flagg's channel. May change your mind on Stihl Ultra (pond water). Amsoil Saber is a far better oil in my opinion and that of many other professional cutters.

@@obxkoastie8170 I was referring to to the blue stuff made by Castrol for Stihl. I’m not sold on the Semi-synthetic either especially on new machines as you should only you use mineral oil when running in.
