WOLFE RIDGE 28C MAGNUM FIREWOOD SPLITTER in The Woodyard!

I have tried out a lot of different kinds and sizes of wood splitters and some are better than others...the Wolfe Ridge 28c MAGNUM has a lot going for it...elevator, log lift. auto-cycle, HONDA engine, electric start, oil cooler, great jacks for stability, big oil tank, WISCONSIN USA made! Ok, I got to brag on my Eastonmade Axis. You can split any size you want as you go, and in a days splitting, I may have a wheelbarrow of trash. Splitting green Oakwood I may have a 1/2 a wheelbarrow of trash. I bought it due to watching about 100 videos of splitters. Chris and Tony's earlier videos of the Axis is what determined my final decision. Thanks guys. 20° in central Arkansas this morning and expecting 8-10 inches of snow starting around noon. Deliveries out the wazoo today.

Nothing like friends getting together to split wood the gloves you have on when I was selling firewood i had a couple guys who worked at the dairy and on Wednesdays would bring me gloves similar to what you have and milk and cottage cheese they took care of me freebies is always good thanks for posting Chris is that some of the dryer stuff doing a good job lol thanks again

31:11 WATCH OUT CAT!!!! Looks like 2 guys are definitely what it takes to take advantage of the fast cycle time. With only 1 guy the splitter is waiting for the guy most of the time, depending on your setup. Keep the rounds close!

I bought one of these in 2019. I wish I would have gotten the magnum package which has the bigger push plate and fast return cylinder like what's in this video. That being said, I can't keep up with it when working by myself. I had a guy helping me for a couple years. He's a hyper worker and didn't feel comfortable with the auto-valve so he fed me rounds and stacked the wood in 275 gallon IBC totes. Took us 20 minutes to split and stack a tote, which is 1/3 cord of wood when stacked about 6 or 8 inches above the rim. Our best time was 18 minutes. BTW... A 275-gallon tote stacked just to the rim IS NOT 1/3 cord. It has to be above the rim 6 or 8 inches for it to be a full cord. I stacked cherry 4-foot-high between T-Posts that were 8 foot apart. I then stacked it in a tote after drying all summer so there was shrinkage. The wood from that row was 6 or 8 inches above the rim of the tote. I'm not selling wood, so I call it close enough to a third, but it would be illegal for me to call it a third if I were selling wood.

I think that log stop plate is adjustable on the 28 Magnum. Don't know it would adjust enough for your liking, but check it out. You may be able to get it out of the way somewhat. Looks like a very productive machine.

Chris, you need a couple of concrete bunker blocks up against your barn to push into. It helps to keep the wall from falling apart after using it to push against. Don’t ask me how I know.😢

There was a WolfeRidge video yesterday about the Model X, which solves the problem of the guide obstructing the pull-back. Also - it has reversible log lift.

Those bigger logs that you have to bring back for a second split would do better with the 6-way. But then you might have to sort the smaller logs from the large. Slick setup though. Downside is that it definitely isn't hand moveable like the Eastonmade.

Nice splitter. But. Might be more powerful than the Ultra, but it’s not as fast in the cycle time. And ya the angled piece is sorta in the way. You had said it was annoying to get the wood out cause you were separating it. But it would be the same trouble if you wanted to take that piece back to resplit. Just my thought, everybody has theirs. I watch another channel that has one of those splitters and the seem to be fighting to get the lower pieces out on both sides. So they have to lift the 4 way wedge. If you’re just pushing it thru, it’s fine.

Most of it is already dry...15-19% and the remaining 20-30% will be dry in a few months because the outer half is dry, just the center is wet. Yes it was all standing dead barkless for years.

Hi Chris and greetings from wintry Finland! Why do you always push both levers forward? What happens if you push only one lever?

One is for the ram only and The second engages the auto return and detent.

It is an auto cycle valve. There is a detent for the retract stroke and a detent for the forward stroke. if you only push the lever towards the middle of the machine it would fully extend then the lever would kick into the neutral position and the ram would stop at full extension. if you pull that same center level back it will retract the ram but not detent to a hands free position, if you released the lever the ram would stop moving. If you push the outside lever forward, the ram retracts until it bottoms out then kicks the handle into the neutral position. Each handle essentially does half the cycle. With the quick push of both levers you can leave and go get a fresh piece of wood or clean up splits or anything else while the machine completes the work cycle on its own.

Yes, here in Devon I am converting my splitter back to one handed operation, I don't have anyone working for me so it's just me and I have my sappy in my left hand to pull the logs onto the splitter so I see no problem.
