An island per video seems like the ideal format for videos on this game.

Great commentary, talking through your logic as you go. I feel like I went from not understanding this squad at all to having an idea of how they work.

Glad to watch a run where the presenter is faster than I am at spotting good lines (and using cuts, instead of just umming and ahhing for while like others), and also explains what they are doing.

You can move a mech on to the space with the pod to collect it instead of protecting it the whole time - happened to me on accident.

Good point, but if he didn’t know it wouldn’t matter much. I think the tutorial teaches you that you can pick up pods. You often don’t need to though, and prioritizing moving into a space that may be unfavorable isn’t something you can afford to do often. I’ve logged a solid amount of time into this game and I’ve never seen a Vek do so much as look at a time pod. I’ve only accidentally destroyed 1 pod after 2 dozen or more games by pushing a Vek into that tile. Hadn’t seen the tutorial tip for that yet, so it was a bit of a surprise when it came. I’m pretty sure Vek never move onto or attack a tile with a pod on it. This often means you can just ignore the pod while making sure you don’t push a Vek onto that tile. Unless you have some actions to spare, picking up a pod isn’t necessary. Chen Rong and Archimedes are great pilots to grab pods, though, since they can move into that tile after they’ve already done whatever they needed to. Some other pilots may be good picks as well.

@@mucuslime I'm always undoing turns because I unwittingly destroyed a time pod. I'd say most of the time I have to take extra care not to destroy them and often find it easier to find some excuse to pick it up than to keep being delicate around it the whole match. But I do still have a long way to go in the game, so hopefully it'll be more second nature to work around them as I go.

After winning the game I kept multiple perks from the fire team, and just added the lightening mech and one that pushes people via artillery. Seems to work well and still provides a lot of freedom to adapt, plus I can swap out a mech if I feel like it without disrupting the entire combo.

Before the update the flame behemoths were my favourite squad and the Flame Mech is still my favourite, but they really, really like reactors as early as possible and there's a couple bits of info that change how they play. On reactors, there's a load of new tricks available to the Flame Mech with +1 range and it doubles the amount of tiles you set on fire per turn, you can choose to shoot enemies without pushing them so you can interact without harming buildings anymore, shoot through buildings from the other side to push enemies away and set them on fire, it's really good. The Swap Mech is a little niche for dropping vek into pits or into an on fire tile while also invalidating their attack, getting them to hit each other, and increasing its range helps to make those situations much more common. The vek AI doesn't like to move into on fire tiles unless they are already on fire so patches of flames in front of buildings help to keep melee vek off, but given that the Flame Mech does bonus damage to on fire enemies there's also merit to aggressively coating spawn points in fire. City tiles and some protection objectives that also cause grid damage when hit don't take damage from fire because they aren't a unit type with a health bar, but most buildings you need to protect for objectives that do have a health bar and don't cause grid damage will take fire damage (the train is immune to fire, terraformer isn't, the acid rain building on detritus isn't, I haven't tested every single objective with health). One building threatened by two vek can be pushed off easily by the Meteor Mech until it's upgraded. I try to pick a starting zone with low health enemy types, especially looking for leapers. I think of the damage caused by setting vek on fire in the sense of how many ticks they will take before they do something threatening. With Flame Mech it's often 2, because of the push usually nullifying the vek's attack, while Meteor Mech doesn't push with a direct attack so if a vek is threatening a building it would only deal 1 damage before the dangerous attack happens, which makes leapers such good targets. Armour scions do very little to stop the output of these mechs beyond reducing the damage of the Flame Mech against on fire targets, so they're often a good target. Getting a pilot with a reactor core makes the start feel much smoother, Camila makes a good pilot because leapers and scorpions can still force you to focus on them even while on fire by holding your mech in place until the enemy turn starts. Recently I've been a big fan of Gana, deploying onto enemy spawns pushes them into the "burn to death before being relevant" threshold to let you get control of the momentum much easier. Flame Mech can control 3 health minions with push and then they're dead if you also hit them with Gana's deployment, Meteor Mech can now challenge 2 health enemies. Being that close to them on spawn also increases the likelihood of making the mech the target of attacks so you can effectively ignore some vek turn 1, or set them on fire and watch them take damage while doing nothing relevant. The Meteor Mech is an artillery piece but with the backburn upgrade it's a good idea to have it in the middle of the action looking for lines to control the vek with the main shot while setting another on fire behind. Finally, this group lacks no immediate damage options and does much better on the first two islands dealing with fewer alphas, so picking up a nice bursty weapon or two when spending rep is well advised.
