I thought chess was already violent. You sacrifice the front line to keep the second line as safe as possible. It doesn't matter how many pieces you have left at the end, as long as you have more than the other player and of course, the king unharmed, you win.
@Benjaminy2k4 жыл бұрын

@@Death_Korps_Officer You literally said that having more pieces and an unharmed king means you win. But the goal of chess to checkmate - the amount of pieces you have doesn't matter. It's something novice players tend to forget because most of their chess games are decided because they make a tactical mistake and give up - but the game isn't over just because you lose a couple pawns. This is important because once you start player at more advanced level and get introduced in unbalanced positions where a pawn is worth more than a bishop or a knight and a pawn is worth more than a rook, etc... you really need to stop equating 'winning position' with 'more material'.

Doom is a fast paced FPS game about staying moving, keeping at higher health, and slaughtering your enemies, but also about using everything you have at your disposal and adapting to your enemies. Into The Breach is a slow, methodical turn-based strategy game about deciding whether it's better to take the hit or avoid it, to lose one building to reduce overwhelming threat or risk them turning on you after, and completing as many main and secondary objectives as possible, but also about using everything at your disposal and adapting to your enemies. They're remarkably different games on the surface, but they share some of the same secondary skill set.

with "Into the Breach" i have a small motto. "There is ALWAYS a way". I genuinely believe that so long as you keep your enemy spawns in check and don't allow eight or more enemies to exist on the board at once, then the game's A.I. intentionally directs the enemies to always take actions with at least one flawless solution. i say this as i've almost always found them to some capacity. so long as there aren't too many Vek in play at once, then there is always a way to get away scott free.
@kpbotbot4 жыл бұрын
This is how I play too. I would even go to the point of severely damaging my mechs from blocking if it meant having to deal with less Vek on the map. The smaller the "health margins" I set for my mechs, the easier the game became on normal. Still won't touch hard though haha
@ThyVile3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately that's not true - the AI in the game doesn't have a grand scheme of things in mind, it doesn't even take other Vek into account when deciding the moves, which I guess makes them open to various amusing chain-friendly-fire combinations. It's this simplicity that evolves into an awesome design by itself.

Fun fact, if you get all the objectives on every mission you do on an island, failing none, you will get an additional bonus reward upon the completion of the island. I have found that due to the extra supplies you can get from the stars, including grid power and the 100% objective bonus, it is often better to take a grid damage to ensure an objective while completing the island, as the bonus will more than pay for that damage once the island is complete

You briefly showed it in the very last clip, but one of the fun things about the game is making the enemies attack each other. Because they determine how they’re going to attack before your turn, you can move them so that they kill each other. Attack order becomes especially important when doing that, because it could be the difference between a bug attacking a building, then being killed by another bug, or the bug being killed and not being able to hurt the building.

7:01: As far as big picture plays are concerned, in my view the 3xp from the scorpion really isn't worth leaving the two hornets alive. Instead, I would've punched the hornet attacking the left-hand satellite (killing it), shot the scarab into the left-hand satellite (also killing it), and hit the hornet attacking the building with the artillery shot (killing it because the forest would catch fire, causing a second point of damage to the hornet before it can carry out its attack, as environmental damage always happens before Vek damage). Your pilots generally level-up quickly enough that going for xp at the cost of putting yourself into an inferior strategic position is almost never necessary. - 9:06: The reset mechanic is why my favourite pilot is actually Isaac (who gives you one extra use of reset turn per battle). Every other pilot makes your mechs better, but he makes the _player_ better by further increasing your leeway for making mistakes, experimenting - all the stuff you mentioned, really. He's also the perfect pilot to playtest modded squadrons with, because that way you are using only their baseline potential (not their baseline potential plus some potentially game-breaking extra), but are getting the absolute most out of that potential because of the extra reset, letting you gauge how balanced the mod-squad is as accurately as possible. - 9:38: And _that's_ why leaving the hornets alive was ill-advised. This goes for any Vek really, but hornets especially have a habit of flying themselves into some _amazingly_ inconvenient spots. - 11:00: And indeed, those two hornets are still alive as of the end of the battle. So whilst you gained 3xp for killing the scorpion the satellite launch would otherwise have killed, you essentially robbed Peter to pay Paul by losing out on the 4xp for killing those two hornets. - 13:21: These plays at the end, on the other hand, are suitably galaxy-brained. Kudos for showing those off. In the boss battle, I would've put the artillery mech in front of the building rather than behind it, but that's a nitpick.

I love this game so much. I think it was a little slept on. Maybe because it looks “cute” in a way? But it’s levels of strategy are deep. One thing that’s fun is to mix and match mechs from different squads.

Huge thing about this game is that it doesn't move bugs randomly. Somehow it manages to calculate their movement so that unless you already lost a mech, you're _guaranteed_ to prevent all grid damage in any turn with any set of weapons (spawns are random though). It may require to trade some mech damage sometimes, but grid always can be safe, if you're good enough in this game. Saying that with 130 hours in and 5 perfect 4-islands runs with all different squads, without taking a single point of grid damage, including the final encounter. Don't know how did they managed to program this, but it's such a great work. It's crazy engaging, because every time I lose, I _know_ that it's not random decided to screw me up, but it's _my_ own mistake, and if I'll get better, it won't happen. A masterpiece of tactic games.

I stumbled across your channel whilst looking for tips for beating eternal on nightmare, I was immediately saddened by the fact that I hadn’t done so earlier. Your content is great and the effort you put in shows. Thank you for the content and keep up the good work. I’ll be buying this game now! Always loved rts/grid games.

Cannon to F4, it will be on fire but Victory will come before death. Hit Hornet saving lives. Combat to C4, hit Scorpion like you did. Artillery to Hit A6 push Hornet to save lives. Victory>Civ Lives>Pilots Lives>Time Pods>Objectives>Kill Count. is how I play.

When I read the title my first assumption is the game is slow, *DISCOURAGES* finesse, discriminates all but one (non spectator friendly) play style, and pushes for the degradation of the human reflexes

As an avid XCOM player, ITB is *amazing*. It distills the complex decision-making of XCOM from "a few times per mission" to "all the damn time" and I love it. I'm not even sure I'd want it remade with better graphics and story, as that would probably distract from actual gameplay.

Love your channel man. It's nice to see long videos on relatively small games like this and you seem to have the same preference for games that set gameplay and atmosphere before graphics. If you shouldnt know them, I'd highly recommend hyperlight drifter and children of morta to you. These are also exquisit!

If anyone is wondering if a Mech can be recovered while in battle, there's a skill that can heal mechs including disabled ones, the pilot won't die once the game ends. The "Proximity Heal" is for that.

In board gaming, Into the Breach would probably be called a low weight board game. Meaning it's a game that is intended to be learned/taught quickly(ie it takes a few games to fully teach), few people would flat out dislike the game, the set up is quick, beating the game is quick, surprisingly deep because they are often stepped in excellent mathematical ludology, and its enjoyment is heightened with another game. For example, Fast Food Magnate, a 2 to 4-hour board game in which you manage a fast-food chain during the 1950s, is a game that is probably only played once in a gameplay session. 2 to 4 hours however for one board game is somewhat of a drag, so often board game groups will play a smaller game, such as For Sale, a 15 minute game about selling houses, before, after, and sometimes during a much longer game. It's kind of like eating ginger before or after sushi. Low weight games are palate cleansers. I think ITB is a good example of low weight indie games. It's very deep, very quick to teach, is a great example of a tactics game, can lead to other games such as Doom Eternal and Final Fantasy Tactics, and is great to play alongside another game. The reason why I like indies like ITB so much is that it really does give interest to other genres without demanding a lot of attention. Don't get me wrong, Doom Eternal is great. But the big problem about Doom Eternal is that it demands your focus. ITB, on the other hand, is much slower and only demands your focus right before you press the move button. I think there are a lot of indies out there that pair well with other bigger games. I think Dicey Dungeons pairs well with Magic the Gathering.

I'm not a huge fan of turn based strategy games,but I swear that every single game you recommended and presented I'm genuinely interested in,and you know why that is? Is because you are explaining and showing and that's genius!!!!since it makes all the difference in the world,keep up the good job,and on a side note and thanks to you mostly I learn to deal and have fun with Marauders,so thanks for that!!

I got mine via the Windows 10 Microsoft Store. Also, this video only talks about the starter mechs. You can unlock other teams of mechs with really varied and even crazy abilities (the starter team are the "Rift Walkers"). My favorite so far are the Rusting Hulks.

My favourite strategy to use in this game, is where you let one of your mecs die at some point in a fight (preferably a high value target like a boss, I let them die using the self destruct ability, however obviously this strategy only works if you are ok with having an A.I unit for a portion of the run, and also if you even find the self destruct move since no mecs come with it I think?) Edit: Unless the secret squad comes with it or something, I only have 2 achievements left before I unlock it :D

Into the Breach is one of the few games I regularly come back to. It's not a game I want to play for 30 hours a week. It's a game I play for 1-2 hours a week ever since it came out. I heard it's on the Switch too, which is probably a great platform for it. It's not something you want to play in 5 minute segments because you really need to get into the right mindset and focus to enjoy it, but if you have 90 minutes to spare a campaign of ITB feels like a satisfying self-contained experience that wraps itself up.

When I'm a little tired of the relentless intensity of Doom I play Death Stranding, is really relaxing and addictive, I always felt like it was the antonym of what Doom is about and I love it. Also I've been thinking on playing into the breach for a while but wasn't sure about the concept, now I'll give it a try
