Only to unironicly reveal he kinda is. But it would be so easy to turn the idea on its head. Okay Alex you want to be the most important man in the universe here you are countless worlds have been destroyed by your ego and obsession. Deep down you know this is your fault because of the kind of man you are. Don't run from it or leave it in somebody else's hand this is your mess and your the only one who has to fix it. Honestly the "box art" or whatever it's supposed to be (the art used as the video) is pretty cool, shows off the personalities of the characters. Vella's playing her synth, Michael is taking a picture of something, The Essentia 2000 is mysteriously in the background and far larger than everyone else, implying plot relevancy greater than expected, Alex (and Dali) are center, implying they're the center of the plot (which they are, at least Alex for sure), Panda Bear-ier is holding out a shield with a sword, implying the protectiveness he gives the party, or at least Alex, who he's the closest to and facing away from, Claudio has his replica katana out and is in an anime-esque fighting pose, Rory is hooded and cast in deep shadow, being lit from under, giving him a dark, more mysterious aura, and Chondra is gracefully using her hula-hoop. I know I'm probably putting too much thought into this, but YIIK does have some good theming at times, you've gotta admit.

I love the artstyle in this game, I really enjoy the music, I really liked the ideas the developers were trying to do, I like the voice acting, and I liked how they tried to be original. I really do respect all the effort put into the game. It's just a shame so many things were poorly executed. -For one, the main character Alex has got to be my least favorite character in a video game... probably ever. Sure, to be fair, he grows a bit throughout the story, but I still hated him throughout the whole game. -The dialogue... oh my God... it's one of the worst I've seen in a game. There's so much dialogue that's so unnecessary, so many pointless monologues Alex does (this is where show don't tell would've went a long way here everybody!), and moments where it's downright CRINGY (like a character pulling the race card when it comes to lock picking). The game treats itself like a visual novel of some kind, and for a game like this, it doesn't work. The only saving grace here has got to be the voice actors. Minus all the yelling, they did a very decent job, no matter how bad the dialogue is. -The endings... oh boy. I heard the developers rewrote one of the endings (but correct me if I'm wrong), but even with that, they felt very rushed, very unsatisfying. Sure, I've seen worse endings in other games, but bloody hell. -Almost all characters, except for Vella and another character, are very bland. They feel very generic, you don't feel attached to them while the story continues. -Speaking of story, for 2/3 of the game, I thought it was okay. The last 1/3 though, it's very confusing. There were just moments where it just didn't add up, questions that weren't even answered. Not to mention the horrible endings. EDIT: The story itself even has a very, very messy tone. Like, it's like it can't choose what it wants to be, which makes moments not that effective. -The gameplay is fine while exploring in my opinion. Sure, it can get a bit tedious at times when it comes to puzzles, but I can get past those. Combat however, while I respect the effort, it's way too damn slow with very little polish. The balancing is so freaking messy, it can make some battles go by fast, while some can last for over twenty minutes. The quick time events were pretty cool at first, but they get very tiring after using them over and over again. By the time you play it for three hours, combat feels so freaking same-y, even with different enemies with more health and more attack power (that's how I felt anyway). -I liked the mind dungeon idea, but I think they should've made things feel a bit less tedious. -Some very questionable design choices. Overall, I really do appreciate the effort put into this game, but I can't say it's good. I think it's just mediocre, the kind of mediocre you don't want to hate due to the amount of work put into it. There was a lot of potential here, but if there were more people on the team making it, I believe it would've turned out better. That said, I'm really interested in how the VITA version turns out. I have high hopes that the port will be decent, since it's being delayed and the game is in Unity. Sure, usually games running in Unity run poorly on VITA, but with some optimization, I believe they can run well on the system.

@@Zulf85 Let's just hope the VITA version is a decent port. Unity games usually run like shit on VITA, like The Deer God (Gotta love it's framerate and screentearing glory), Corpse Party: Blood Drive, The Long Reach, NORTH, etc. But it can be possible if done right, like STAY, Claire and such. It's far from easy, but it can be done if optimized correctly, I believe. And yeah, I do hope the creators learned their mistakes and improve moving to future projects. They do have a lot of potential, just didn't know how to execute their game well (which resulted in a very mediocre game, of course).

YIIK is genuinely one of the only games that actually fits the description of "It's so bad it's good." The game has so many flaws and issues, but the unbearable amount of passion the devs put into their project is so obvious that it ends up looping back to being an incredibly endearing game looking from an 3rd party perspective. I despise, and love this game. YIIK is ironically the best, and worst game I've ever had the chance of knowing. Shame so few can actually sense passion in a project, even with it being a total failure. Alas, majority only view the surface of the water. If there was one thing that YIIK was best at, it was being an example for all future indie devs to know that even if you're the most passionate, inspired, and creative person, you still need a storyboard. The incredibly disrespectful thing is, he had TOBY FOX make a track for his game, and then turned around and said that the reason his game failed was because video games can't have deeper meaning or serious topics. YIIK would have been way better off as a novel. I mean, the writing isn't perfect, nor is the story, but more focus on those points, instead of on a broken gameplay and a fundamentally wrong use of the video game medium might have improved the thing a whole lot. Like, if they just scrapped the "game" elements and made it into a visual novel with the same art direction and music, and with a bit of help in the writing departement, YIIK might have genuinely been a good experience. Shame.
