Thank you for your series on setting up and playing the Morin Khuur! I've practiced throat singing for a couple years now after watching Batzorig Vaanchig and Huun Huur Tu, and I've always wanted a Morin Khuur to accompany that. I finally got one from Mongolianz just yesterday! Hopefully with your help I can soon have an idea of how to bow and create my own moments of tranquility! Have a good day, Ian

@uuguul4 жыл бұрын

Hey Steve, what type of glue is used to put on the skin? Is it hide glue or something different? And did you pre-stretch the skin before gluing?
@uuguul4 жыл бұрын
Yep exactly, the hide was in water for one day or so to be totally wet before putting it on the box then kept the moisture by puttin a bit of water every 20 30 minutes for the next 24-28 hours or so to be sure that the skin was drying equality on each part.. :) Also put some "rubber" around the skin to be sure it wasn't moving while drying! ^^;
@jonaslang85784 жыл бұрын
@@uuguul Thanks! But I'm not sure I understood you correctly, did you do that before gluing or while gluing?
@uuguul4 жыл бұрын
@@jonaslang8578 First let the skin in water until it was totally soak and soft... Then took measurement and cut the part (still totally soaked with water), then put the glue on the wood and applied the skin on it while also using "rubber" to help putting pressure and strength on the skin so it would apply properly on the wood, then applied water on the skin in order to have it dry all together (from the extremety, the part in contact with the wood) to the center. So had to apply water on the middle of the skin (inside side) every 20 30 minute because if the skin dry from the middle first later it will not be in tension and also will crack more easily :) I hope it helps :D
@jonaslang85784 жыл бұрын
@@uuguul Ok, now I understand, thank you :-D But I have another question on the glue: I don't have hide glue, but bone glue. It's similar, but sets quicker and needs to be warmer when gluing. Do you think I can use that, maybe if I soak the skin in warm water so I have more time when gluing it on?
@uuguul4 жыл бұрын
@@jonaslang8578 i used warmed glue as well :) u can maybe try first with a little piece of skin on some wood just to try and see :) ^^
