Thanks mate. Yes I should have had the Hyper Pod II with me and I might have gotten more. I only use 55gr as I can buy them a lot cheaper for the amount of ammo I go through. 60gr would be better for pigs though.

Giving the burnt areas a thorough night hunt as soon as possible is worth considering. Animals are often drawn to freshly burnt areas. Apparently predators like cats travel a long way to recently burnt sites specifically (would be one study probably, whether representative or not unknown), dogs may do this also? Deer seemed to return to/head to rapidly in such sites with unburnt wetter gullies in NZ hill country. The results of testing this idea would be interesting. They (& you) will have less cover
@intothenight1993
@intothenight1993 Жыл бұрын
Yes that definitely is the case. But thermal is no good to use for a few days after the fire because there is so much wood burning for days after and the whole place area is dotted with heat and it’s not good for the thermal sensors to look directly at such high temperatures.

Could do but black pigs are hard to see with a spotlight normally let alone when they are in the black burnt off area. I do still use torches to pick up eye shine most of the time.

Need semi auto back every farmer should be a able to have one. And if ya had subs and the new Theo's element optic that would be the ducks nuts. Ya would of got 95% of them.
@johnmead8437
@johnmead8437 Жыл бұрын
Semis are really good in the right hands. Very few of those exist. And the contrast between a few of the better Aussie shooters & the US ones demonstrates this, the former seem to get better % with less ammo. The use of thermal etc is another myth for effectiveness with most. It's very noticable how tas made pests wary as the ineffective get hold of it. They might get a few but make the rest really wary. Cattle & livestock too, their legs in the air gives away how competently some identify their targets, and their disregard for private property.

@@johnmead8437 my gripe is one state can get what ever they need others well there stuffed shit all I had as a kid yer kid was SLR. NEVER HAD A PROBLEMS NOT ONE OTHER THING IS IF YA GET A SEMI NOW LIKE THE 22 MAGNUM FROM NZ IS 6000.00 PLUS GOVERNMENT TARRIF CHARGES BULL SHIT AND IT IS WRONG.
@johnmead8437
@johnmead8437 Жыл бұрын
Centre-fire semis are effectively illegal in NZ now. A specific licence/purpose is needed for pest control etc and those previously licenced needed to renew to that standard from scratch. Allowing dickheads access to assault weapons enabled NZ Police to change the laws radically, despite if they had administered them correctly Tarrant would never have been able to come from Australia, get a firearms license & shoot up the mosques. .22s up to 10 shot mags are still permitted, they are not pig or dog calibres. It would be fair to believe most of the military semis in NZ were inappropriate. In fact cannot recall any of the pro ground shooters using them (some had sporting ones) if a skill level to compare with is relevant. They were superior from the air, in effective hands. Often they were used to waste ammo & make animals helicopter shy(er). Whatever differences Aussie politics impose is their affair, they seem to have as many problem hunters both with attitudes (they come over East as vacation hunters & bring it with them) & protecting invasive pests on public land in problem numbers .Exception being where specific pest control operations programs are being done. And not sham ones to protect deer etc. usually Guides needing tame overpopulated victims. Having an SLR doesn't make one a competent or knowledgable or responsible firearms owner or user, as that terrorist toerag demonstrated. It's possible the pig kill results might have been better with one. But observing from the armchair consultancy position the results looked good. Any criticism would be the sequence choice. & not being on the spot, and pigs being pigs once spooked, it's a good pass. YT is full of clips where semi operators got less from a mob.
